That’s roughly 10 hours a day spent on something I’m just not passionate about. 😩 Here’s the thing: I really love the art of filmmaking, but my current job leaves me too wiped out to dive into that world. Not to mention, most of the film industry seems to focus on commercial projects that don’t resonate with my artistic vision. It’s a tough spot. I’ve considered keeping filmmaking a side passion and finding something else that allows me to pursue my interests more freely. Today I applied for an entry level position at a television production company. It all sounded great, until on the second bullet point their expectations of a successful candidate was as follows: - "Professional experience gained in a personal assistant position, or a similar role in the creative industries such as an agent's assistant, runner, script/dev coordinator or assistant script editor" I'm not sure if it's just me that thinks this, but when a job is labelled as entry-level, surely that implies minimal, if any, experience is required. Yet further down, more professional experience was needed: - "Diary Management experience - ideally for more than 1 person at a time" - "Experience and evidence of working with and supporting people in senior leadership positions" This isn't me having a dig at any company or anyone in particular, but in my view an entry-level position shouldn't require previous professional experience. A role that requires another entry-level position to gain experience to enter it surely cannot be defined as entry-level itself. This certainly isn't unique to the film and television industry. It's everywhere, but if every job required experience and no one was willing to provide the experience without requiring it, no one would ever get a job.
