In the coming decade, Healthcare IT will reshape the global healthcare system through Al, telemedicine, blockchain, genomics, and automation. From personalized medicine to real-time health monitoring via wearable devices, technological advancements will enhance patient care worldwide. Telemedicine will break down barriers to access, especially in rural areas while blockchain will secure patient data across borders. India stands to benefit from these global innovations, improving both care delivery and patient empowerment. Overall, Healthcare IT will usher in a more connected, data-driven, and patient-focused approach to healthcare across the globe.
And I believe the following areas would need help from the New generation to navigate and support this change and also creating new wide range or career opportunities globally.
- AI and Machine Learning for a global health revolution.
- Telemedicine in healthcare could help patience forget geographical Boundaries.
- A global solution for healthcare security through Blockchain.
- Genomics and Personalized Medicine to create tailored aproach to health.
- Wearable technology and Real-Time health monitoring.
- Automation in healthcare to Streamlining Global Operations.
- Digital health platforms to empowering Patients globally.
- Bioprinting and Regenerative Medicine to revolutionizing Transplants.
- Big Data and Public Health to have a Data driven future converting human errors to almost zero.
- Healthcare Consumerization to allow patients to become decision makers, unlike today.
How are digital HealthTech startups disrupting the traditional healthcare system? And, is there an even more disruptive phase ahead?
Healthcare is busy catching up with the digital revolution. The current wave of HealthTech startups getting traction is highly focused on integrating hardware and software tech with traditional care delivery, mainly through the following three formats:
1) Integrated specialist care (e.g. Paloma Health, Brightside Health or Midi Health)
2) Health Wearables & Remote Patient Monitoring (e.g. SOVN, FibriCheck)
3) Behavioural apps (e.g. Daylight, from the creators of Sleepio, Rebel Care)
Once they reach more scale there's a lot of value here! But I'm even more excited about the next Phase of Innovation around Service-as-Software which is tackling the crazy expensive 80% of the healthcare sector that is services. We won't be able to drop prices (and increase access) exponentially without step-changing new technologies. Think:
👉 Personal virtual health coaching
👉 Continuous (remote) biomarker testing
👉 Faster and cheaper imaging and diagnostics
I think we're getting so much closer to getting these good enough to drive meaningful adoption and we need to rely on the following to drive this:
👩💻 Technology disruption in LLMs, image recognition, predictive modelling, MedTech and blockchain
📱 Consumer adoption of preventive medicine and digital tools
🏛️ Regulation & Payment Flows
Huge opportunity, but lots of work to be done! More details on my latest Substack post - link in comments 👇
