🍻 Who else is in the mood for some nice Bavarian beer this weekend?   I was able to get hold of a few #NFT beer cans @Metabrew X BraveBrew GmbH at the Web 3 Convention last week (hosted by Blockchain Reallabor, project of the Fraunhofer FIT) - Thanks Dr. Daniel Trauth 👋   Metabrew has used Web3 applications to breathe new life into an almost 600-year-old brewery from Bavaria. NFT holders get free beer for life as well as marketing rights and co-ownership 😎   💡 And what else was interesting?    👉 Wolfgang Prinz from Fraunhofer FIT took us through the basics of #Web3 and explained how companies can profit from the new technology and transform themselves. A so-called "real world use case" of cleaning chemical tanks was very interesting. #Blockchain can guarantee digitally secured quality and thus better tracking and customer loyalty.   👉 The start-up Tokenize.it is still quite new to the market, represented by co-founder Jork Leonhardt. The platform supports start-ups in fundraising, crowdfunding and employee participation and tokenises the GmbH (= limited liability company). A very promising use case. There are already quite some companies queuing up for the service.   👉 And then there is MiCA regulation. The cryptograph Dipl.-Inf. Michael Mertens did a good job of framing how the EU will be the first major economic zone to get a defined framework. Maybe the next few years in the EU will be exciting after all?   Great event in any case, and how nice that it took place in Hürth and that the region around #Cologne is so well positioned 💚

Crypto sushi performative art and they didn't mint an NFT? The Financial Times reports: "The cryptocurrency company chaired by former UK chancellor Lord Philip Hammond hosted a party where guests were served sushi off two scantily clad models, raising new questions about the culture of the industry." 🤔 These are new questions? I thought they were as old as crypto? As the report subsequently points out: "So-called crypto bros have permeated the industry since its inception, with men dominating the biggest companies and often loudly purveying their beliefs. The crypto bro culture has been criticised for contributing to governance failings, including at collapsed exchange FTX." But as we shall see, at least they now cater for gay bros. "Copper, which stores digital assets for customers, held the private party last week at the five-star Mandrake hotel in London after a large crypto industry conference. In a dining room with red-lacquered walls, two people who appeared to be wearing thin bodysuits lay on a long table with plates of sushi on their partially naked bodies, according to a photo of the event seen by the Financial Times. “Transcend the ordinary at the Copper experience,” read an invitation for the after-party, adding: “Attendees will be able to entertain and explore all five senses.”" Well, given crypto's capacity to transcend all manner of things such as logic, its own aspirations, etc, is anyone surprised that it also transcends cultural norms? "A person close to Copper said the models were a man and woman and were “wearing swimming costumes”, adding that it was “a lot of razzle dazzle . . . more performative art rather than anything seedy”. Hammond did not attend, the person added." Well, the razzle dazzle part certainly captures the heart of crypto but I'm not sure most people will consider eating anything off the bodies of anyone (even partially clothed) performative art. If it is art, perhaps explain its point? And if it's art, why didn't you mint an NFT of the event? "Serving sushi off naked or semi-clad bodies has in recent decades been promoted in western nations as an exotic Japanese cultural experience, with nyotaimori dinners on offer from Riga to Las Vegas. However, the practice is far from mainstream even in Japan’s sprawling erotic entertainment sector." I thought this was only a thing in the West in the 1990s when certain uncommon practices in Japan were fetishised and misrepresented as representing Japanese culture, perhaps most famously in the movie Rising Sun. As usual in crypto, the blame lies elsewhere: "“As part of our sponsorship of the Digital Assets Summit 2024, we jointly hosted an after-party held at the Mandrake Hotel,” Copper said, adding that the event “was organised by a third-party event planner and open to all delegates as part of the conference”." Like an event planner will spring this without letting you know beforehand. Why anyone would even eat the sushi, 🤷🏻? Is it even hygienic?

Just reading this latest investment by a16z crypto and it follows the same problem pattern we have seen in needing to change the whole game in the bricks and mortar world. What we are doing in the wellness studio space and recovering 8% of costs with stage 1 before we move to stage 2 which is all about changing the relationships that stage 1 sets in place. From their white paper:- "There is no question that the business model of the typical restaurant has broken down over the last twenty five years, with profit margins plummeting from 15%-20% on average to, now, 4%. Many factors may be to blame, and, certainly, the growing complexity of the modern restaurant operation cannot be ignored. Restaurants have reported that 5% or more of topline revenue now goes to pay for services like credit card processing, third party delivery, and other technology suppliers." #web3 #blockchain
