The EIFS Industry Members Association (EIMA) is pleased to announce that it has been selected by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for funding to support efforts to report and reduce climate pollution from the manufacturing of construction materials and products. EIMA has been selected for a $2.189M grant. With 38 selectees selected for $160M in total funding, these transformative awards stem from the US Congress and The White House's Inflation Reduction Act, which is the largest climate investment in history. The grants are aimed at reducing climate pollution by helping businesses measure the carbon emissions associated with extracting, transporting and manufacturing their products. EIMA’s grant will help the #EIFS industry develop #LCAs and robust #EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) for EIFS products, producing a combination of industry-wide and facility-based EPDs. EIMA intends to contract with a reputable LCA provider with a goal of working with 100% of American EIFS manufacturers (including non-EIMA members) to develop 77 EPDs, covering as many as 1,350 EIFS variations. More information can be read on EPA's press release here https://lnkd.in/gmTdcSjE This ambitious and timely effort would not have happened without the support of #EIMA's Board members, including President Steve Smithwick of Master Wall Inc., Vice - President Jose Berlingeri of Sto Corp., Vanessa Henley (Feldkamp) of Dryvit Systems, Eric Hindson of Sika USA, Rafaël Bao of ADEX Systems Inc., Chuck Robitaille of Dow, Nathan Katz of Saint-Gobain ADFORS, Chip Blome of L&W Supply, Darryl Little of Gypsum Management and Supply and Mike Chaney of James River Exteriors With continuous #insulation integrated into a singular wall system, there has never been a better time to consider #EIFS for a #newconstruction or #retrofit project. #ScaleTheImpact #VoluntaryCarbonMarket #GHGLeadVerifier 🌍 advocating for low carbon & sustainable future
📣 On April 9th, the Science Based Targets initiative Board of Trustees signaled approval in a statement regarding the use of environmental attribute certificates, encompassing voluntary carbon markets, for abatement purposes specifically within scope 3. However, #SBTi intends to release a preliminary draft outlining fundamental rules, thresholds, and safeguards for potential utilization of environmental attribute certificates in mitigating scope 3 emissions by July 2024. Since then, 💥 heated discussions have ignited on the linked feed. Feeling compelled to speak out, especially with ongoing attacks on VCM, I believe it's imperative that we prioritize action over conflict. Our focus must be on #CombatingTheClimateCrisis, utilizing every available tool effectively. Carbon credits should adhere to the #MitigationHierarchy. High quality and well- designed & verified credits must be used by companies in addtion to- not instead of- decarbonisation as part of their net zero transition. Additionally, #scope3 emissions pose a significant challenge, with many companies still grappling with establishing their value chain maps. We must channel our energy into transforming our work methods rather than competing solely on the decarbonization pathway. Hence, an effective consultation process stands as the cornerstone for establishing a robust implementation concerning the utilization of environmental attribute certificates. Will see what happens by July... 💚 🍀

Environmental and societal project financing instrument We need to create a new kind of instrument where the proceeds go into environmental and societal projects and the returns would be in form of positive environmental and societal indicators, not cashflow. The instrument would remain unimpaired so long as the predetermined indicators are in the positive territory. Viable? This will make investors putting money where their mouths are. Got this idea while listening to conversations at the JC3 Journey to Zero Conference 2023
