It's not every day that you get to witness historic discoveries from the #ManhattanProject era! We are proud of our own Brandon McCloud for his role in this amazing discovery while performing site preparation activities for the new Y-12 Lithium Processing Facility (LPF). #discovery #sitework

Crews working to demolish abandoned legacy underground utilities and building foundations at the Y-12 Lithium Processing Facility (LPF) site discovered a piece of 1940s history. The octagonal wooden shape is an example of early Manhattan Project infrastructure – a complete 3-D section of an 18-inch wooden culvert. It fits together with notched squares and wooden dowels to hold the pieces together, and was likely made with timber felled nearby. The team who uncovered the piece includes Scott H., Brandon M., and Pete R.
