Today, I had the privilege of attending the 2024 STEM Career and Internship Fair at UC Santa Cruz.
Engaging with recruiters and delving into discussions about potential job opportunities was an enriching experience.
One proactive step I took prior to the event was applying for relevant positions in advance. By doing so, I ensured that recruiters had access to my resume and pertinent information, facilitating seamless conversations and maximizing the impact of our interactions.
As I reflect on this experience, I recognize the importance of further proactive measures to enhance future career fair engagements. What other strategies do you recommend for maximizing the effectiveness of these events? Let's continue the discussion!

Today, a group of Nottingham learners attended the Nottingham Careers Fair held at The Albert Hall. At the event, learners exploring their career paths took the opportunity to engage with various employers, posing insightful questions such as:
* What does your company do?
* What kind of jobs do you have at your company?
* What skills or qualifications do you look for in a candidate?
* Do you have any internship opportunities for learners?
* What advice do you have for someone who wants to work within your company?
Upon returning to college, learners were encouraged to reflect on their interactions at the fair. They pondered questions such as: How did they feel during their conversations with the employers? Did they find satisfactory answers to their inquiries? Were they able to effectively communicate their strengths and abilities? What career paths are they now considering following this experience?
Overall, it was an enriching afternoon for our learners as they considered their work experience opportunities and future career aspirations.
Something I wish I was told as a young freshman engineer at UH:
After going to several career fairs over the past 3 years, I believe I've determined a personally efficient way to mass-apply for internships (and co-ops):
- After obtaining company names (from a career fair), first search the companies through eCONNECTION (found on the AccessUH portal) in the 'jobs' tab.
- If you're not finding the companies, positions, or locations you were looking for, apply through the given site (any address or QR code you obtained at the career fair).
- If you were not given a specific site to go to, navigate to the company's website and find their 'careers' or 'Work for us' tab and search for "intern" or "co-op".
*The reason for starting with eCONNECTION is so you can apply for the Engineering Career Center's 'CO-OP Process' (more information at https://lnkd.in/gjZ45ENA). This allows you to remain a student at UH without taking classes while you work full-time as a co-op during a semester.
**Be sure to track all the companies you've applied for as you go, just to stay organized.

Early results of NACE’s annual student survey show that the Class of 2023 prefers in-person activities, with attendance of in-person career fairs nearly doubling compared to the Class of 2022 and nearly half of graduates engaging with an in-person internship. https://ow.ly/MwhA50Pc0aI

Attending a student job fair.
The first-ever event I attended as a student of Aalborg University was the Student Job Fair which happened in September.
This event connects reputable companies and students wishing to work as interns or occupy different positions while schooling. Quite a show it was.
So, I met companies like RIA Digital Solutions, Patiro, AWA, Norlys Energy Trading A/S, DSE Aalborg, Blue Power Partners, Deloitte, Wrist Ship Supply, Compleo Health, PARTDESIGN - mekanik og produktion and many more.
Students had the opportunity to go around visiting each company's stand and having an exchange with them.
The most striking of all the activities was the ability of every spokesperson on each stand's ability to pitch what their company does within a short period. Memories go back to my days at ActivSpaces where startups used to go for pitching competitions and training.
Key Takeaways
- Universities here understand students have to practice what they do in class and earn at the same time. I think this approach sticks more.
-They also understand students, especially the international ones like me need some money and so present them with an opportunity to easily get a job. It will be nice to also have schemes back at home that encourage this.
- If you want something, go get it (In late Prof Enoh Tanjong's voice). As we will always have it, fight your war because nobody will for you. Learn how to ask questions concerning what you want.
We visited the stands, found out about openings, applied and we are waiting😁😁
