All Recreational Therapists that have earned the credentials Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) have been interns before. Entry into the Recreational Therapy field needs to be reformed so students do not have to pay tuition to complete an internship away from their university campus. The National Council on Therapeutic Recreational Certification (NCTRC) should place the needs of incoming professionals above any university’s or employer’s financial motives. See how ludicrous this appears: pay $10,000.00+ for tuition to not go to the college you just overpaid in order to work ~600 non-paid hours somewhere else, then pay $450.00 for a chance to enter the field. Our soon-to-be graduates should be boosted into professionalism, rather than having to dig themselves into a deep financial hole, or into mental exhaustion, just to get there. The excuse, “We all had to do it” is bogus. … Ironic how Recreational Therapy is supposed to be a field that cares deeply about mental health and wellness, but Recreational Therapy academia and professional organizations do not apply ethical codes of nonmaleficence to students or interns. It’s important as professionals to be cognizant of the circumstances of interns - All the more reason to give our interns the best possible learning experiences. Interns should be compensated by the host for the contributions made by the intern. This year, Indiana home and community-based Recreational Therapy providers formed a task force to help Indiana Medicaid determine new reimbursement rates (compensation). Only one of the providers mentioned the costs associated with hosting interns and the need for interns to be compensated - Necessary for growing our workforce in order to reduce service disparities. If you are an intern, or will soon be an intern, please stand up for yourself. Choose internship hosts that advocate for you as an intern from the beginning - Do not choose to intern for organizations that simply use your free labor as a cheap recruitment tool to funnel you into employment or contracting just to grow their organization. A big red flag is if an internship host waits until the conclusion of your internship to present a job offer - Interns prefer to know where and what their professional role will be in advance! Hold the organization you are interning with accountable. Please help improve your internship organization with your latest and greatest educations! You are the future! I have a deep desire for the entire Recreational Therapy internship system to improve! If interested in an internship with Assisted Independence, LLC, please visit our website here: https://lnkd.in/eHP_hkHn Would love to hear more about anyone’s internship experiences anywhere.
Happy National Intern Day! Special thanks to Tess Meyer, Alexa Weber, and Miranda Seguin.

It was an absolute honor (not to mention, really fun) to be able to share a bit of my journey with the student athletes of MINUTEMAN REGIONAL VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL SCHOOL DISTRICT last week. I wanted them to know that all of the same behaviors and character traits that make them successful on the field today is what will set them up for success in their careers after sports. 1. Be present. - Are you the first one in and the last one out of the gym/field? 2. Be coachable. - How do you handle criticism/feedback from your coaches? 3. Attention to detail. - Are you doing the "little things" right? 4. Cadence. - Are you "taking plays off", or do you have a sense of urgency? 5. Sportsmanship. - What would your teammates and competitors say about you?
Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting MINUTEMAN REGIONAL VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL SCHOOL DISTRICT with several of my colleagues from Cambridge Mobile Telematics. Our mission was to engage with the students, shedding light on the perils of distracted driving while also showcasing the myriad career opportunities available in the STEM field. It's important to note that Minuteman stands as one of the premier technical vocational high schools in all of New England. What made this presentation truly exceptional was the fact that our audience consisted entirely of student-athletes. To ensure a strong connection, I brought along two individuals who could readily relate to these youngsters. First, there was Joseph Jamiel, a four-year starter and Division-I wide receiver for Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, as well as a dedicated high school football and lacrosse coach. Accompanying him was Jake Kulevich, who not only served as captain of Colgate University's hockey team but also enjoyed a professional career with both the Edmonton Oilers and the Winnipeg Jets. Furthermore, given Minuteman's co-op program, it seemed fitting to have Lorenzo Powers address the students, sharing valuable insights about our internship program and the advantages it offers. Lisa-Marie Pascuccio delivered a presentation that articulated the core mission of CMT and enlightened the students about the various tech-adjacent career opportunities within a technology company.

WonderMind.com I ABSOLUTELY SEE NOTHING WRONG WITH CRYPTOCURRENCY. I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY THE INFANT DEMOCRATIC-CAPITALISTIC MINDS OF TODAY BLAME THE USA GOVERNMENT. THAT SAID THEN IS ANY GOVERNMENT TO BE BLAMED FOR THE HOMELESS PROBLEMS PLAGUING THE WORLD.?... NO. GOD KNOWS ALL THE HEADACHES USA GOVERNMENT HAVE WITH THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS. THE NEW WORLD IS PRACTICALLY A SHOCK TO WITNESS. PEOPLE "ONLY WORKING" TOGETHER FOR A COMMON GOAL... "IN THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS." THUS DOESN'T THAT ALSO INCLUDE THE HOMELESS. THE HOMELESS ARE OUT THERE... ARE YOU.? HOMELESS A OPPORTUNITY MISUNDERSTOOD..... The modern economic system is a market economy, which is a capitalist economy where people, not the government--NOT THE GOVERNMENT--own most businesses. In a capitalist economy, prices allocate capital and labor between competing uses, and capital assets like factories, mines, and railroads can be privately owned and controlled. https://lnkd.in/eB98Jnv9 GOOGLE. EXAMPLE, IF YOU NEED TO RAISE MONEY FOR ANY REASON OR MORE SO LETS SAY THE "HOMELESS" PROBLEM WHICH IS BELIEVED TO BE TIME & MONEY CONSUMING BUT IN ONE DIRECTION TOWARD THE HOMELESS. Thought of the day: When designing a sports science academic curriculum, professors and academics should not overlook the importance of being in the athletic setting via rotations or internships. Being able to understand a force-time curve is cool, being able to use SPSS is cool…but going through the anxiety of troubleshooting force plates when they don’t connect to the wifi or when the LPS system isn’t tracking well and you have to reset the system…that’s an integral part of being a sports scientist. Another goal of mine is to give back to this incredible field and contribute to sports science academic programs. #athletictraining #athletictherapy #athleticperformance #athleticmedicine #strengthandconditioning #sportsperformance #sportsmedicine #sportschiropractic #basketball #basketballperformance #Sportsscience

At my internship with Weber State Athletics I worked with people across different departments to set up for game days. Game days require good communication and teamwork. During game day we communicate with coaches to make sure things are set up how they would like them. This experience is teaching me about what goes on behind the scenes of sporting events. While doing research I found this article on Sports Marketing in the Digital Age: https://lnkd.in/g7UnfkHF
