This economic downturn was one of the best things that happened to us. Our company this year has about the same number of people as last year, but we've grown (revenue) by approximately another 50%. The frenzy of 2021-2022 had us all running around like crazy trying to hire for what seemed to be an ocean of upcoming projects. In this frenzy, we were inefficient as a company, we didn't know who was responsible for what, and we were sometimes reckless with resources. When the ocean dried out, we got time to focus on being better. One thing we did this year, was that we took our "bench management" very seriously. We created clear steps for people who came onto the bench. One of the good things about Zendev is that we have internal projects, where people often can contribute even when we don't have consulting work. What we've learned about "internal" projects over the years, is that you can't do them half-heartedly. Either do it properly or don't do it at all. What we've also learned is that if you are going to be on "the bench" for a few weeks to a month, then to be able to contribute to an internal project, you need great on-boarding and off-boarding. This is both technical, but also a matter of updated documentation on projects. This whole experience with ZenDev for the past seven years has been like living on a sine-wave, sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down, but you always feel alive. I hope you're all doing great, and I wish you a happy new year in advance. Take care of your selves and your loved ones.

❝𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞❞ 🚀 Today marks the beginning of my journey in the corporate world, and what a day it has been! 🎉 The first part of the day was all about setting up and getting acquainted with the systems. From configuring accounts to exploring the new tools provided by Microsoft, it was an insightful introduction to the workings of the corporate world. I learned how things happen behind the scenes and the technologies that drive it all. 💻🔧 After lunch, Devashish Jindal conducted an induction program. We learned about the company's policies and how Strategyz Inc. provides incredible employee flexibility. One thing that stood out was the absence of the typical "sir/mam" culture, promoting a more informal and comfortable environment. 🍽️🗂️ Post-induction, we had a meeting with our CEO, Abhishek K. These interactions were enlightening as he spoke about the rights we have as employees. I am genuinely impressed by the company's "open-door policy", where suggestions and feedback from any designation are welcome. The idea of being able to arrange talks and meetings with anyone, without any hierarchical barriers, is truly refreshing. 👥🗣️ Next, we had a session with our CISO, Sanjay Pramanik who has over 20+ years of experience with companies like IBM. He provided us with deep insights into the company's security measures and how they are managed. It was fascinating to learn about the various protocols and strategies in place to ensure our digital safety. 🔒🛡️ Lastly, we had an enriching discussion with our CTO, Sarthak Joshi. He walked us through the process of code collaboration, merging, and approvals. Understanding how the main code base is managed and the importance of teamwork in this process was eye-opening. 💻🤝 This was my first day in the corporate world, filled with warmth and humility from all the mentors, leaders, and fellow employees. Looking forward to many more exciting days ahead! 🌟 #CorporateJourney #FirstDay #NewBeginnings #Strategyz #OpenDoorPolicy #EmployeeFlexibility

Today, I welcomed another new starter to my dream team. This evening, I've been reflecting on what we have and why I love our team so much. We're not just colleagues, we're a support system. As much as we love what we do, sometimes our projects can feel overwhelming. But in our team, we're never alone. We lift each other up, offer an ear, and share the load when someone's feeling the pressure. One person's challenge is the team's challenge. We approach them as a united front, leveraging each other's strengths to find the right solution. We aim for psychological safety. We feel comfortable expressing ideas and concerns, and admitting to mistakes, knowing we'll be heard and supported, not judged. This means we can trust each other, learn from each other and grow together. We prioritise open communication and ensuring everyone feels heard and valued. We also go beyond the work to build connections. Whether a lunchtime walk to buy street food, bongos bingo for a leaving do, a Monday pub lunch to pick us up, or volunteering together. We create space to bond and have fun together, getting to know who we are behind the job title. Real life begins at 5 o'clock. But we do spend a lot of our lives in the workplace. I really do believe that good relationships and a supportive team of cheerleaders are so important for happiness, wellbeing and ultimately productiveness. How does your team create a supportive and collaborative environment? I'd love to hear tips and examples. (PS I really hope my team agrees and are as happy as I am! This weekend I was reflecting on my career path, hint it looks more like 〰️ than ━ It went something like this: ⚖️ Worked in Criminal Law for 6 years (many stories for over a coffee!) 🧑🏻🎓 Studied Social Psychology while training and playing (field) Hockey full time. 🏑 Moved to Belgium to play & coach 🧑🏻💻 Moved to Manchester and started my (accidental) career in Tech Delivery before moving back to Notts and continuing this path, progressing to Head of Software Delivery 💫 Started blended Delivery & People roles before focusing full-time on People roles in the last 2 years 😅 A newbie to going it alone and focusing on the things that bring me joy & value I can bring to others This wiggly path might not make sense to some and has caused me to lack confidence when faced with people who have 20 years of experience in a single field BUT The common factor in everything I've done has been people, how to build strong teams, meet people where they are, build relationships and create environments for people to thrive. I've become great at dealing with Change (and now hunt it out), being comfortable as the least knowledgeable person in the room and how to dive into problems I can solve to have the biggest impact. I've always been someone who followed my heart ❤️ rather than having a defined path There is no right or wrong career path #careerpath #leadership #peopleleaders _____________________________________________ 📩 I'm committed to building a community to support people in the Tech industry develop their people and leadership skills. 🌟Just back from a short trip and what better way to relax and recharge !!🌍✈️ In the hustle and bustle of the workday, it's easy to get caught up in a cycle of non-stop tasks and deadlines. The past week made me realise how important it becomes to take a break be it a fun trip or a simple visit, back to your roots and culture. Not only are these essential but they can be the ultimate catalyst for renewed creativity, productivity, and personal growth while emphasising that sometimes all you need to do is take a small step back and breathe. Everything else is not as important as you make it to be. !! Missed messages will be responded on best effort basis. Follow for more insightful snippets to becoming better at software engineering !!
