Today marks my 5-year anniversary since joining JPL for a postdoctoral fellowship turned data scientist role. What a journey it has been. JPL is an amazing place, best in class, and truly unique in the world. It's a blend of research and practical application, where we design state-of-the-art technology with a direct path to mission implementation. Collaborating with an incredible team of highly motivated individuals from diverse backgrounds—applied mathematicians, statisticians, computer scientists, engineers, and scientists—has profoundly shaped my perspective on the potential of remote sensing measurements. Over these five years, I have delved into the science and mathematics of atmospheric correction and application algorithms for #Mineralogy, #Soil, and #Fire risk estimation from vegetation trait algorithms for imaging spectroscopy. I contributed to the #EMIT mission and developed and implemented the 'shape from spectra' concept, enabling us to derive surface topography from radiance. If there's one lesson I've learned, it's that focus, hard work, and strong will can take you far beyond what you think is possible at any given point. Special thanks to Dr. David Ray Thompson, my postdoc advisor and now friend and colleague, for his help and vision.
