Dive into the captivating interview as he shares his story behind the invention of suction sail technology. Four decades ago, Bertrand Charrier collaborated with Jacques Cousteau and Professor Lucien Malavard on pioneering the suction sail for the maritime industry. Back then, the timing for widespread adoption of wind power wasn't right. But today, he argues, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐧𝐨 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞. Joining bound4blue about two and a half years ago, Charrier brought his Turbosail technical expertise to empower our team. Leveraging this technology, we have transformed the concept into the innovative eSAIL®, tailored for both retrofitting and new builds across various industry segments. Keep bringing wind to shipowners and ship operators! And thank you for sharing his interview. I found particularly interesting two technical paragraphs that go to the heart of your sails: "The result was a breakthrough they christened the Turbosail. This was a vertical cylinder with aerodynamics similar to an airplane wing to create lift/force, and a shutter and fan system to draw air in for greater efficiency. In testing, the thrust coefficient produced was between three and four times that of Marconi sails, making it a hugely attractive, and economical, green propulsion solution. "This autonomous system, which unlike Flettners has few moving parts, leading to exceptionally low maintenance requirements, is simple, robust and highly efficient. With no need for crew input, it works to optimize power and reduce engine load, dramatically cutting vessel fuel consumption and GHG emissions." Charrier Bertrand.

Elevating sustainability offshore 💚 We’ve recently signed a new contract with Windcat for two Commissioning Service Operations Vessels (CSOV), the so-called Elevation Series. We received the first order for two of these innovative CSOVs last November, which was quickly followed by an order for a third vessel. Now, we are looking forward to getting started on numbers four and five – with an option in place for number six. The 87 x 20 metre ships boast a range of state-of-the-art features including gangway, crane and thrusters. Significantly, the Elevation Series is hydrogen powered and has hybrid technology with offshore charging capabilities, leading to significantly reduced emissions offshore. #Damen #sustainability #innovation #maritime #MaritimeIndustry

Minesto continues to push the preparations to completion for commissioning of Dragon 12 in Vestmanna, Faroe Islands. The Dragon 12 is reportedly the world’s first utility-scale tidal dragon, a device that converts energy from tidal-stream flows into electricity using a permanent magnetic direct-drive turbine and hydrodynamics that resemble kites. 🌊 It has been through an installation and recovery cycle. Under extreme weather conditions with heavy snow and wind, the Minesto team has continued on-site work. Now, final preparations are made before installation and production commence.
