Today is World Ocean Day, and we celebrate the incredible role our oceans play in sustaining life on Earth. As an example, blue carbon ecosystems, cover just 0.5% of the sea floor, yet store up to five times more carbon per area than tropical forests and sequester carbon three times as fast. They may account for over half of all carbon buried in marine sediments. In honour of World Ocean Day, we remind you that the public consultation for our new Blue Carbon and Freshwater Wetlands activity requirements ends on 13 June 2024. These guidelines will pave the way for projects to achieve Design and Performance Certification, complete with the issuance of Certified SDG Impact Statements and Products. We need your input. Your feedback can drive meaningful change. The consultation period ends on 13 June 2024. ๐ Give feedback and read the full draft here: https://lnkd.in/eWmV-5BC #WorldOceanDay #BlueCarbon #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment #PublicConsultation

More focus is put on physical developments and less on preserving and improving the natural environment. That is where environmental planning comes in. However, it does not only look at the natural environment but also the social and economical. In the context of the natural environment, countries have outlined their national development strategies, policies and goals outlining how they aim at preserving it but very little is being done. However, organisations such C40 are advocating and have initiatives that aim at solving the climate crisis. Within its strategies lies some which align with environmental planning and we can benchmark some of them in our developments whether private or public. Check out my blog post as point out a few strategies that stand out to me as some of which can make our cities function better by integrating the natural environment and the built environment.
