🌟 Advocating for Accessibility & Inclusivity: My Journey with My Brother's Cognitive Disability 🌟 As we navigate through life, we encounter moments that shape our perspectives and ignite our passions. For me, advocating for inclusivity and accessibility isn't just a cause—it's deeply personal. Growing up with a brother who has a cognitive disability, I've witnessed firsthand the challenges and barriers individuals like him face in our society. From navigating public spaces to accessing education and employment opportunities, every step comes with its unique set of hurdles. What makes this journey even more profound is that my brother lives with me, and I am his primary caregiver. This role has not only deepened my understanding of the day-to-day struggles faced by individuals with cognitive disabilities but has also fueled my determination to be a catalyst for change. Yet, amidst these challenges, I've also seen resilience, determination, and the power of advocacy. My brother's journey has inspired me to become a vocal champion for those with cognitive disabilities, striving to create a world where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can thrive. Through my advocacy efforts, I aim to raise awareness, foster understanding, and drive meaningful change. Whether it's advocating for inclusive policies in the workplace, promoting accessible infrastructure in our communities, or amplifying the voices of individuals with disabilities, I'm committed to making a difference. But advocacy isn't just about raising our voices—it's about listening, learning, and amplifying the voices of those often overlooked. It's about creating spaces where everyone feels valued, respected, and included. As I continue on this journey, I invite you to join me in building a more inclusive and accessible world. Together, we can break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and celebrate the diversity of human experience. Let's work together to create a future where every individual, regardless of their cognitive abilities, can reach their full potential. Because when we embrace diversity and champion inclusivity, we all thrive. - William J Harvey #GetOutAndDrive #Advocacy #Inclusion #Accessibility #Diversity #Empowerment #CognitiveDisability #ChampioningChange

We often talk about Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEI&B), but disability inclusion must be a core part of this conversation. To truly foster inclusive environments, we need to prioritize disability inclusion at every level—starting with how we define DEI&B. It’s time to expand the conversation: 2DEI&B (Diversity, Disability, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging) should be the new standard. Disability inclusion is about creating a culture where everybody can thrive. Here’s how to make this happen: 1. Embed inclusion into company culture: Normalize disability awareness and support at all levels, from leadership to product design. 2. Design accessible products and services from the start: Make sure accessibility is part of the development process, not an afterthought. 3. Inclusive hiring practices: Actively recruit and support people with disabilities, offering the tools and accommodations needed for success. Remember by integrating disability inclusion into your organization, we open the door to innovation, broaden our perspectives, and ensure that every individual, is seen, valued, and supported. #DisabilityInclusion #Belonging #InclusionMatters #Innovation #Accessibility #InclusiveCulture #IntegratingDisability #EmbedInclusion #Equity

The journey to reshape corporate perspectives on disability inclusion reached a historic milestone with a study initiated by Ted Kennedy Jr. collaborating with Joyce Bender from Bender Consulting Services, Inc. This study revealed that companies that are proactive in hiring people with disabilities achieved *twice* the performance earnings of their peers! This study highlighted the economic benefits and set a new course for corporate governance and ESG standards, a testament to how strategic advocacy and empirical data can drive systemic change. Explore the complete historical narrative of this transformative study in our YouTube episode on HearSay as we discuss how these findings can be implemented into broader corporate strategies. https://hubs.li/Q02w-XW30 Video Description: Joyce Bender in an office setting looking at the camera on a dark purple background with “HearSay: Ep #4: Featuring Joyce Bender.” Transcript: Joyce Bender: Would you do a study? I want to compare companies, champion companies that hire people with disabilities to companies that do not. Is there a difference? And really he didn’t know what they would find out. They didn't know. And they were even shocked when they found out through data that companies, disability champions that hire people now have two times the revenue from performance earnings than their competitor that does not hire people with disabilities. #History #DisabilityHistory #CorporateCulture #InclusiveHiring

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) are cornerstones of a just and equitable society. However, your efforts to build truly inclusive environments fall short when you overlook disability representation. Disability is a critical aspect of diversity that intersects with all other marginalized identities, making it the largest marginalized group in the world. Many of our most powerful thought leaders are also Disabled, embodying strength, resilience, and innovation. Their contributions highlight the immense potential within the disability community and underscore the importance of including Disabled voices in ALL DEI initiatives. Disability representation is not merely about numbers; it’s about ensuring accessibility, equity, and truly meaningful inclusion. When Disabled voices are prioritized in our policies, initiatives, shared spaces, and everyday practices, we create a world where everyone belongs. Looking for more ways to create AND sustain #DisabilityInclusion in the workplace? Hit the ‘follow’ button! I’m an openly Autistic #DEIB Facilitator and Speaker on a mission to close the disability leadership gap. Want to make your organization truly #inclusive?
