What is a Vessel? In the shipping and logistics industry, the term vessel refers to a large boat or ship designed to transport goods, cargo, or people across oceans and other bodies of water. Vessels serve various purposes depending on the type of cargo or service they provide, such as: Container Shipping: Transporting containers filled with goods. Bulk Cargo Shipping: Carrying loose materials like grains, coal, or minerals. Tanker Shipping: Moving liquids such as oil, petroleum products, or chemicals. Passenger or Cruise Shipping: Taking passengers on leisure or tourism trips. Vessels are classified based on their size, cargo capacity, and function. Some of the most common types include: Container Ships – Specialized for transporting cargo in standard-sized containers. Bulk Carriers – Designed for carrying unpackaged bulk goods. Tankers – Built to transport liquid cargo. Cruise Ships – Luxurious vessels for passenger travel and entertainment. Ferries – Vessels that carry passengers and vehicles over short distances. #ShippingIndustry #Logistics #CargoTransport #ContainerShipping #BulkCarriers #TankerShipping #FreightForwarding #MaritimeIndustry #GlobalTrade #ShippingSolutions #SeaFreight #OceanFreight #ShipManagement #ShippingOperations #SkyMarsShipping #ShippingExplained #SupplyChainManagement #BusinessLogistics

“Cut-off” & “Sailing” 🚢 Relationship Between Cut-off and Sailing: The cut-off is typically 1-3 days before the sailing, depending on the carrier and port arrangements. Shippers must complete all procedures before the cut-off to avoid missing the vessel. Once the vessel has sailed, the cargo is en route, and shippers can prepare for destination port logistics. 👉 Cut-off (Closing Time) Cut-off refers to the deadline by which all operations like container loading, customs clearance, and transport arrangements must be completed, and cargo must be delivered to the port for loading. This time usually falls a few days or hours before the vessel departs, depending on the route and port. 📌 Key Aspects of Cut-off: Document Cut-off: Refers to the deadline for submitting all cargo-related documents (Bill of Lading, invoices, packing list, etc.) to the carrier or port. Missing this could result in the cargo not being loaded. Cargo Cut-off: The time by which shippers must deliver cargo to the port and complete container loading. Cargo arriving after this time risks missing the vessel. ⚠️ Cut-off Considerations: 1️⃣ Plan Transportation Early: To avoid missing the cut-off, shippers should arrange domestic transport well in advance. 2️⃣ Prepare Documents Early: Ensure all documents are complete and accurate to prevent delays. 3️⃣ Emergency Handling: Missing the cut-off may incur extra fees for rebooking or delay to the next sailing, so keep an eye on notifications from the carrier. 👉 Sailing (Departure Time) Sailing refers to the vessel's scheduled time of departure from the port, marking the start of the ocean transportation phase. 📌 Impact of Sailing: Start of Transit Time: Sailing marks the point from which the cargo's sea journey begins. Shippers can estimate the arrival time at the destination based on this date. Schedule Changes: Sailing schedules may shift due to weather, port congestion, or other unforeseen circumstances. Shippers should monitor updates and adjust plans accordingly. ⚠️ Key Points Regarding Sailing: 1️⃣ Vessel Schedule Tracking: Use the carrier’s website or freight forwarder’s system to track real-time updates on vessel schedules. 2️⃣ Destination Arrival Planning: Based on the sailing date and route, shippers can notify consignees of the expected arrival to prepare for customs clearance and delivery. ‼️ Practical Tips for Managing Cut-off and Sailing: 1. Plan Time Efficiently: Stay updated on cut-off and sailing times to allow enough time for loading, customs clearance, and port operations. 2. Maintain Communication with Forwarders: Freight forwarders will provide timely updates on cut-off and sailing times. Staying in touch helps prevent unexpected delays. 3. Be Flexible with Unforeseen Issues: In case of delays due to cut-off, weather, or force majeure, coordinate with your forwarder and carrier to find alternative solutions. #Shipping #Logistics #GlobalShipping #InternationalTrade

I talk with clients about the "ocean leg" of shipping almost daily. Yesterday I had a new client on the phone and explained how/why they need to secure their goods properly when loading a dedicated FCL shipment. My usually analogy is to say - "picture a jar of pickles - and then picture it while shaking it and after". The nicely arranged pickles will move, sometimes fall apart, and when you stop there will be stuff sinking to the bottom and floating to the top. That is not how you want to picture your freight inside of a container. But containers *DO* undergo rough seas sometimes and so securing freight is a must. Our team utilizes all kinds of goods to help load, secure and protect your freight while in transit. From pallet tables to airbags, dunnage, plywood, etc - our team works to ensure that your goods are properly loaded and secure for safe transit. Our goal - "service in every shipment" which means that your freight arrives to the receiver looking the same as it did when it left the shipper! #service #lclfreight #cargo #oceanfreight #containerfreight #ltl #shipping
