As shipping agency, we are working both with Pleasure and Cargo Vessel; If the difference between them is quite clear, differences between type of ports it is not to give as granted though; Touristic Port: They are ports where pleasure vessel can safely land, its main aim is to host private and pleasure yachts; They are often inside natural bay; They can have floating bay, various service and also residences since They are located in or next to Holidays destination; Each port has its own rules, but there are not specific requirements to fulfil: just remember that exiting vessels have priority on the entering ones, Brindisi Port is an exception to this rule though. Commercial Port: Mainly armed with everything may need to load or discharge any type of cargo; Based on draft limitation, they can welcome any kind of vessel, no matter if commercial or pleasure: yes, both cargo vessel and pleasure vessel are allowed if notify their entrance/exiting on duty time. Here we have first important difference: you cannot enter, both via land or via sea, inside a commercial port if you do not have an authorization. You can find Cranes, shore or not, intermodal connection, welding and lashing service and all you may needed to load or discharge goods from a vessel; and yes, indeed, you need to book all of those servicies in advance. Commercial port is divided by Terminal; each Terminal can be owned by different entities and apply different tariff. You cannot “park” everywhere. There are assigned spot every day. If you still think “what a shipping agency does” well, consider that we know all port differences and how to deal with them. Private jet charter:Are you considering chartering a private jet? If so, you are certainly not alone. Each year, a large number of individuals arrive at the decision to charter a private jet. As the popularity of private jet charters continues to grow, so does the number of private jet chartering companies. Panama Canal restrictions drive 31% increase in dry bulk sailing distances In this week's “Shipping Number of the Week” from BIMCO, Shipping Analyst Filipe Gouveia examines the substantial impact of limited daily transits in the Panama Canal on the dry bulk market.Between January and April 2024, transits decreased by 74% year-over-year, leading to a 31% year-over-year increase in sailing distances for affected routes, despite a 25% year-over-year decline in cargo volume. “The limits in daily transits in the Panama Canal have significantly affected the dry bulk market, with transits down 74% y/y between January and April 2024. During this period, sailing distances for completed voyages in the affected routes rose 31% y/y, while the cargo volume dropped 25% y/y. Overall, tonne mile demand for these routes fell 1% y/y,” commented Filipe Gouveia, a shipping analyst at BIMCO. Due to low water levels in Lake Gatun, restrictions have been imposed on the number of transits permitted through the Panama Canal, with a maximum draught level of 13.4 meters. Normally, between 34 and 38 ships traverse the canal daily at draught levels of 15.2 meters. At the beginning of the year, only 22 daily transits were allowed. However, by April, the number had increased to 27 transits, and it currently stands at 31 transits. For more Details: https://bit.ly/3WTINfP

Good morning my fellow LinkedIn friends. fun fact for the day that I'm sure some off my connections will already know. Did you know that the Port of Southampton isn’t just about cargo? It’s also one of the UK’s busiest cruise terminals! On any given day, you’ll see colossal vessels loading up with everything from high-end cars to electronics, while—just a few docks over—cruise liners prepare to whisk travellers away to bucket-list destinations. 🛳️✨ As freight forwarders, we’re on the front lines, ensuring everything lands exactly where it should, whether it's inbound cargo or outbound shipments, all while working around these floating cities. Fun fact: a cruise ship docked here for just one day can require thousands of tons of supplies to keep guests entertained, fed, and pampered. It’s a logistical dance—imagine coordinating hundreds of shipments while making room for thousands of excited travellers. And with Southampton handling **over 1.5 million containers and nearly 2 million cruise passengers each year**, it’s a bustling mix of cargo and cruise life! Working at a port like Southampton means balancing the exacting requirements of freight logistics with the seamless flow of people and cargo. And while the cargo containers might not wave goodbye as they board, we still get to feel like we're part of an incredible global journey. Here's to the magic behind the scenes that keeps both goods and travellers moving! #FreightForwarding #SouthamptonPort #LogisticsLife #GlobalTrade #CruiseLife #ShippingIndustry #PortOfSouthampton #SupplyChain
