I am delighted to share that the new Discovery Health App and Health Ecosystem won Gold in the ‘Connected Ecosystems & Marketplaces’ category at the prestigious 2024 Qorus Innovation in Insurance Awards. And, in a double-win, (which our CEO Adrian Gore has also posted about) Discovery Limited was named Global Innovator 2024. These prestigious awards – held in Lisbon on 6 June – showcase the best insurance innovations across the globe. This year’s awards attracted almost 290 entries from 44 countries. Applicants ranging from agile start-ups to the world’s largest financial institutions. The Qorus award was accepted by Discovery Health’s Chief Digital Officer, Ana Endres and her team. The new Discovery Health App and Health Ecosystem has grown exponentially since its launch in September 2023. Built on the latest available app technology and available to Discovery Health Medical Scheme members, the App provides an end-to-end world of digital healthcare options. I like to think of it as the ‘digital front-door’ to the healthcare system, giving medical scheme members seamless access to a range of administration and healthcare services and features. Some of the features in new Discovery Health App and Health Ecosystem include: 1. Online booking of doctor consultations and appointments with other health professionals 2. A clinically-validated AI-powered symptom checker (for accurate and reliable healthcare advice) 3. Access to doctor within minutes via video, audio or text (particularly useful if you need urgent medical advice after hours or over the weekend) 4. Online pharmacy, with medicine delivered to your door 5. AI-enabled Virtual Physical Therapy, allowing you to do your physiotherapy at home 6. Mental health support through a clinically validated digital cognitive behavioural therapy platform called SilverCloud (particularly effective for mild and moderate depression) 7. An emergency button should you need an ambulance 8. Members can also manage their medical aid plans, submit claims - and more.
