For months now, St Vincent’s has asked nib for a fair funding agreement that considers the rising costs of providing private hospital care. But sadly, nib has closed the door on our request.
That’s why St Vincent’s has today given notice to nib Group that – unless the health fund changes its mind over the next 65-business days – we’ll end our agreement with them in early October.
This means that after this date – unless an agreement is reached – nib members may be required to contribute more to the cost of their care when using a St Vincent’s private hospital, as the benefits paid by nib will decrease.
Exiting our agreement with nib is not the outcome St Vincent’s wants. St Vincent’s has done its utmost to reach a fair agreement.
But as a not-for-profit, St Vincent’s needs to be able to cover its basic costs.
We hope that nib sees sense over the notice period and makes a fairer offer but we must plan for a future where they don’t.
We’ve set up a new website - svph.org.au/nibupdate – to provide nib members and the wider public with information about this matter. Similarly, our call centre is also now available to help with any queries: 1300 644 273.
