ASCP Daily Diagnosis 01/26 CST Although maribavir and valganciclovir were associated with comparable rates of cytomegalovirus viremia clearance, neutropenia-related treatment discontinuations were less likely with maribavir use. Maribavir had comparable post-treatment CMV viremia clearance to valganciclovir, and was associated with a lower incidence of treatment-limiting neutropenia. https://lnkd.in/gk9zN_J4

Let Alliant Lab Consulting help set you up for success.
It is important to understand limitations of testing types. Too many times I see labs that advertise Syphillis testing with PCR from urine. This gives patients a false sense of comfort. You may be able to detect a primary lesion if the urine stream comes across the ulceration. However, the RPR and antibody remain the best test to date. Let our laboratory experts guide your clinical panel choices based on sound practice and science. https://lnkd.in/dNab3ePm
The US hasn't seen syphilis numbers this high since 1950. Other STD rates are down or flat

Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a type of bacteria commonly found in the digestive tract and genital tract of healthy adults. An estimated 1 in 4 women have the GBS bacteria in their body. The infection is more commonly transmitted from mothers to newborns during the birthing process. GBS is the leading cause of life-threatening newborn infections such as sepsis, pneumonia, and meningitis [1]. To mitigate the risks of transmission, the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) updated the recommendations for GBS screening in 2021 to detect and identify GBS for the prevention of infections in newborns. According to ASM, universal screening for GBS is recommended for all pregnant women between Week 36 to Week 37 of gestation [2]. Early diagnosis using culture testing or nucleic acid amplification testing (NAAT) plays a pivotal role in reducing the risks of stillbirths and preterm births [3]. Alternatively, NAAT offers a rapid and potentially more sensitive method to detect GBS, when the test protocol includes an incubation step in enrichment broth before performing the analysis [5][6]. While there are no vaccines in the market currently, the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2017 identified the unmet health need for a vaccine to reduce the disease burden globally [7]. Credo Diagnostics Biomedical recognizes the importance of the early detection of GBS. We have identified GBS as a potential assay in our development pipeline. The human immune system is quite fascinating and to be honest with you one that I do not fully understand. I do not think anyone does!. However to study the human immune system researchers need tools and hence Afrobodies four legged and two legged team members have been working on developing some tools to enable researchers and diagnostic companies around the world to study the human immune system. Previously I talked about our anti human IGA Afrobod (nanobody) that we have developed and today I am mentioning another class of human antibodies, IGM. Human IGM antibodies are typically the first class of antibodies produced when the body is responding to an infection. Therefore our anti human IGM Afrobod would be very useful for researchers or diagnostic companies who are looking for early infection detection as our Afrobod binds to Human IGM antibodies. If you are interested in getting your hands on an anti human IGM Afrobod let me know as Afrobodies will also soon be launching this product to market. Customers in the UK will be able to access this via our distributor there 2BScientific Ltd. #biotech #alpaca #vhh #nanobody #afrobodies #diagnostics #research

https://lnkd.in/d2r-XHv4 HEADS UP!!! TECOVIRIMAT RESISTANCE!!! A new cluster of mpox cases caused by tecovirimat-resistant monkeypox virus (MPXV) was detected among persons with no documentation of previous tecovirimat treatment over multiple months in five U.S. states. What are the implications for public health practice? Routine sequence surveillance is needed to detect and monitor resistance. To prevent development and spread of resistant MPXV, tecovirimat use outside of clinical trials needs to be consistent with CDC’s Investigational New Drug protocol for tecovirimat use.
