Thanks to Samir Kaji and Allocate for hosting a great conference that brings GPs & LPs together for candid conversations. As I say in this video, I truly believe that: 1) The extreme venture capital cycles in 2020/21 and 2022/23 are self-inflicted by the animal spirits of fear and greed, 2) It is very hard to deliver great returns when all the capital is deployed at the top of the cycle, 3) It is possible to deliver superior returns by keeping your feet on the ground through boom and bust.

At Beyond Summit 2024 by Allocate, Greg Sands of Costanoa Ventures shares that #venturecapital cycles can be disruptive, but they don't have to be. The Costanoa team takes a different approach of focusing on steady, disciplined investing to create value over the long haul. It's a strategy that's not only sustainable but also entirely within reach for the industry as a whole.

Standing beneath the Eiffel Tower, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and wonder. It's quite a unique experience to attend the ChangeNOW summit in Paris, the biggest event on planet-saving solutions. Being one of 35,000 attendees, you start to wonder: how to organize this community for impact? Even though there's great teamwork between big companies and startups, navigating how everything fits together remains difficult. Conversations and meetings with change-makers like Verena, Jeannette, Nicola, Christian, Harald, and Rainer highlighted a mind-shift from selling stuff to solving systemic problems. And guess what: at ChangeNOW, everything is organized not by industry but rather by which societal or planetary challenge is addressed. If you want to address inclusion, there is an area for that. If you are keen on solving behavior change for circular business models, there is a section for that. Yesterday evening futur/io Institute hosted a CSO reception with a view of the Eifel Tower. When the lights started to sparkle, there was a sense of magic in the air. Want to know more about our Tech Lead Nuno? We asked Nuno about his role at radicant, how he first got interested in the topic of #sustainability, and what people should know about his job. Plus: There's a bonus at the end, so keep reading (and don't forget to let us know how you like this post). 1. What's your role at radicant? What do you do? I'm the Tech Lead of the Investment Backend. I try to unblock, guide and learn with my teammates. We have a lot of technical challenges, so we strive to improve the existing system in order to give the developers and clients a better experience. 2. How did you first come into contact with the topic of sustainability? How did you get interested in it? Anyone who inspired you? As a child, the topic of recycling gained more prominence at school. I tried to convince my parents to adopt that at home. After that, throughout my life, my concern around it has been growing, trying to acquire more sustainable habits. 3. One thing you wish more people knew about your job? Sometimes the complexity around it. We have a large variety of technologies and we need to always need to be up-to-date, so it is challenging to do so. 4. Why did you choose to work for radicant? It looked like a great opportunity, to join a new bank, with a purpose that attracted me at first glance, namely the focus on creating a more sustainable world. 5. What does it mean for you to work on a cloud-based application? It means that we work with cutting edge technology. Working with the cloud makes our services more scalable and deployable safely. It also avoids the complexity and cost of having and maintaining our own IT infrastructure. 6. Name one (or more) fun fact(s) about you. I used to be in a band and love to play rock guitar. 🎸 I like to do sports that can push me to the limit, like big cycle runs or a running marathon, having the tennis as my preferred sport.
