Thanks to the Regional Center for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD), we’ve discovered a powerful tool: the IMPACT Toolbox, developed by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission. This open-source tool is a game changer for sustainable land management! One standout feature is the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE), a key module for estimating annual soil loss in catchment areas. Integrated into the GEO-LDN Toolbox, RUSLE helps pinpoint erosion hotspots and for developing strategies to reduce soil loss. I've had the opportunity to use the RUSLE tool within the GEO-LDN Toolbox to successfully identify erosion hotspots in Rwanda. It's been an invaluable resource for targeted land restoration, though I did encounter some data gaps in certain areas. Overall, it's a fantastic tool for enhancing soil erosion monitoring and reporting.
