Every once in a while, it's such a pleasure to notice how the technology evolves to the right direction. Some 15 years ago, I was in charge of delivering a similar waste application to a customer in France. Cétait le bon temps... From the outside it looks quite similar and as neat as the Europress/PostNord application in the video, but -sigh- how complicated it was to build the system with the systems and tools available at that point. SW application engineers had to break all our standard working principles to pull it off and it sure took quite some time to get it done, affecting multiple systems. I don't think anyone has dared to touch the code ever since and fortunately that has not been needed so far. Since then and thanks to our own Rocla AGV Fleet Controller, this kind of applications can be now configured in a graphical user interface. I still remember giving the older waste application as a requirement to the development team as an example on how complicated things can get under the hood. I didn't believe at that point that they could pull it off, but looking at this video, I'm super happy and proud for the effort our SW development team has done over the recent years to change the world. Simplicity in realisation keeps systems maintainable and allows us to fulfill customer needs in so much better ways. Fortunately we are currently updating many of our older systems to Fleet Controller. 15 year old vehicles are still going strong with proper maintenance and partial upgrades along the way. Soon I'm able breath again...

Maersk highlighted the main six storage trends in 2024. Firstly, they pointed out automation, stating that the most used technologies will include autonomous mobile robots to manage activities aimed at improving efficiency. On the other hand, they remarked the merging of company’s stocks, where brands can withdraw orders and returns from the same stock service. As a third trend, they mentioned visibility as a necessity in the distribution of information among partners of warehousing centers to reduce, for example, the number of calls to customer service. As a fourth trend, Maersk referred to sustainability, indicating that integrated logistics suppliers will make greater use of emissions visibility tools to reduce GHG emissions within supply chains. Additionally, they highlighted data optimization, noting that digitalization plays a crucial role in the speed of procedures and will allow the inclusion of platforms that allows simulations of existing and potential environments to improve business operations.
