Today I had the pleasure of participating in European Logistics Platform’s panel on “Navigating Changes in the Logistics Sector” in Brussels. Together with MEP Prof. Dr. Andrea Wechsler and Sophie Punte, we had an interesting discussion on some of the challenges the logistics sector faces, and importantly some our recommendations on how to overcome them. Naturally, climate change was high on the agenda with grid capacity, use of biofuels and supporting SMEs all touched upon. With DHL at the forefront of sustainable logistics we have clear recommendations on these subjects: ⚡️ Urgently address infrastructure, esp. grid capacity and connection issues in order to electrify HDVs. ⛽️ Support bridging technologies such as HVO100 and biogases to reduce emissions significantly TODAY. 👤 Supporting small and medium road partners through e.g. regulatory stability and guidance to help their decarbonisation transition. 👑Support customers in making green purchasing decisions e.g. through more guidance and transparency on what is „green“ (and what not) as we need their buy in. Many of these recommendations can also be found in the recent #DraghiReport demonstrating that key hurdles are very well known, however we now must work to overcome them. Ecological Transition 🌱 | #GEODIS is taking a new step towards decarbonizing its french fleet with the ongoing deployment of 31 electric tractors and 7 carriers, supported by ADEME. 🚚 This action continues our #transition to vehicles and alternative modes using decarbonized or #biosourced energies (electric hybrids, natural gas, biogas, and B100) and the installation of suitable refueling and recharging infrastructure. It contributes to GEODIS' commitments to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 42% (scopes 1&2) and a 30% decrease in the carbon intensity of subcontracted transportation (scope 3) by 2030 compared to the 2022 reference year.

Leading maritime publication Riviera Maritime Media Ltd has featured the Port of Detroit's Net Zero plans in this article. This project, led by Sustainability Scientist Dr Robert Moorcroft, outlines ambitious plans to achieve significant emission reductions by 2035. The plan includes electrifying 80% of small vessels operating in the port and converting 80% of larger ships to biodiesel. Additionally, there are aims for all goods handling operations to be 100% emissions-free, and 80% of lorries to be powered by hydrogen or electricity by the same year. By 2040, the plan is for all ships to run on biodiesel and smaller vessels use batteries, while hydrogen or other zero-emissions fuels will be phased in.
