As we wrap up another successful year at the GSSA, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every member of our team for their hard work, dedication, and passion. It’s been an exciting year for our geological and geoscience community, from the installation of world-leading machinery that will shape the future of our work, to the incredible success of our recent conferences and ongoing projects. These milestones wouldn’t have been possible without the collaboration and expertise of our amazing team! As the holiday season approaches, we hope everyone takes the time to relax, recharge, and enjoy well-deserved moments with loved ones. We look forward to what lies ahead in the new year and the continued growth and innovation that will come from our collective efforts. Here’s to a joyful holiday season and a happy 2025 for all! Is Material Balance analysis kryptonite for the modern geocellular model? Large simulation models allow geologists to present what they believe to be happening, and they reassure decision makers when you only have a few exploration wells in one small area of a field. But just because today’s geocellular models can provide a thousand times more cells than was possible decades ago, does that mean the process is a thousand times better? And are there tried and tested methods that offer just as much, if not greater, accuracy – methods like material balance analysis? https://lnkd.in/dkFtFRiA #geology #geologist #oilandgas #oilandgasindustry #consultants

📑 The GSSA has released a new research article - Dataset and isotope maps for Sm-Nd isotopic data for igneous rocks in South Australia! 🗺️ This product builds on the previously released dataset by Geoscience Australia in 2013, adding over 1,000 datapoints to the isotopic maps. The isotopic data is like a window into Earth’s history, allowing us to reconstruct events that occurred, and how South Australia has evolved over millions of years. Identifying the distribution of mantle and crustal domains may help identify prospective areas for mineral exploration! 🔍View the article and dataset here: https://ow.ly/luSJ50UhQ63 #GSSA #SouthAustralia #Geology #Geoscience #GeologicalSurveySA #GeoscienceAustralia #Isotope #Isotopic #Map #Maps

New #Geosphere: Platt et al., "Geological fingerprints of deep slow earthquakes: A review of field constraints and directions for future research." They explain that "evidence for high pore-fluid pressures in subduction zones suggests that they may be associated with hydraulic fractures (e.g., veins) and with metamorphic reactions that release or consume water."
