We join many across our community in mourning the passing of Dr. Lee Herron, who helped to shape Georgia's life sciences community. Lee served in many leadership roles including with Georgia Bio, GRA, SE Life Sciences, ATDC, and more; though I think many of us will remember him most as a friend and mentor. Our tribute and memorial service details can be found here. https://lnkd.in/ezWNeWZ9

I didn't know Lee as well as some in the Atlanta ecosystem, but he did make an impact on my life in two distinct ways. As a graduate student and a startup co-founder with NanoCliq, Lee was the first validation we received as a company with a Phase I GRA grant. While NanoCliq did not work out as a going concern, the initial investment brought follow-on dollars and to this day, I still consider NanoCliq one of the most significant professional experiences I've had. A few years later, I was fortunate to interact with Lee in my professional life through a couple different roles in the Atlanta biotech ecosystem. Ever a mentor, it was always a pleasure to chat with him at conferences and events and hear his perspective on startups. He will most certainly be missed.

I had several meetings with Lee earlier this year and learned how he was battling the reoccurrence of his cancer. His strength and optimism were evident. My sincere condolences go out to his family.
