Back onto higher education turf today to participate in an open discussion on all things continuous improvement for a staff conference. Great to see an institution engage in an exercise where staff can discuss and ask anything, a completely constraints free exercise. What they wanted to chat about tells you a lot about what’s on peoples mind, it wasn’t the big questions, or the big problems. What they wanted resolved was the little things: a form that has additional unnecessary fields they want removed and no one can agree who has the power to change, a report that pulls the incorrect date fields through from a database, photos on peoples staff records as standard so you know who to look for when having meetings. Not rocket science but things that are irritating and would make peoples lives easier. This is where the power of CI lies, in making everyone’s lives a bit easier every single day. So stop telling people that making small improvements isn’t worth it because you have this big change or system on the horizon that will solve everything - because it probably won’t, and you will get better results and buy-in by focusing on small incremental improvements. Plus it allows you to build and flex your improvement muscles 💪 Brucey bonus to see Susie Palmer-Trew today too! 👋 #highereducation #continuousimprovement
