People Leader @ Department of Child Safety, Seniors & Disability Services | Volunteer Pianist @ Gold Coast University Hospital | Views are my own
Like most leaders in the child protection sector, not a day goes by that I don't feel a deep appreciation and gratitude for my staff. For me, in my role, it's not just my Child Safety Officer staff—it's my whole team across both our practice and business support streams. Our Senior Team Leaders (hands down, one of the toughest roles around). Our Senior Practitioners and Cultural Practice Advisors (our guiding stars, keeping us on track). Our Child Safety Support Officers (the unsung heroes of every service centre). Our Business Officer and Administration Officers (the world would grind to a halt without them). Our Paralegal Officer (a living saviour!, if there ever was one). Working in child protection is a tough gig, and for many in the sector, 2024 is shaping up to be one of the toughest yet! Yet despite the challenges, my staff consistently go the extra mile—often against the odds—to make a positive impact in supporting Queensland's most vulnerable children, young people and their families. This is a massive shout-out for them. Their hard work and the compassion they bring to their work do not go unnoticed. #leadership #childprotection #childsafety #childsafetyofficer #childprotectionpractitioner #childprotectionsector #employeeappreciation #shoutout #appreciationpost ----------------------------- Hi there, I'm Shane. Thank you Denver7 (KMGH-TV) & Micha Smith for covering the concerns that STAR and the STAR Community Advisory Committee have about mayor Johnston’s new office of Neighborhood Safety that will be housed in the Office of Social Equity & Innovation. This will mean that STAR (the alternative to police emergency response system and program)- which already* has its own community advisory community of leaders could be moved to this office. The Office of Social Equity & Innovation is in the beginning* stages of its own community engagement plan - which means appointing 12-15 community members to that board. The SCAC (Star Community Advisory Committee) will hold electeds accountable to preserving this community wisdom and autonomy if we are not integrated into the Office as the body we are as is. Any alternative to policing initiative should be overseen and led by community - STAR was created from Denver Alliance for Street Health Response -who hosts the SCAC now. Denver Alliance for Street Health Response does many aspects of public health and community safety in the community - including the emergency response line and that is why this community advisory committee (SCAC) was intentionally curated. Erasing that work is a dishonor to community, and the work and labor that DASHR and dozens of community leaders have supported since 2018. DASHR has ensured that the program has evolved and is consistently being improved with partners. We see new offices and initiatives happen with new administrations, but we need to remain diligent in keeping the #communityleadership that has been curated, and protected (and promised by Denver City Council) alive and central to STAR. That does not include having (appointed) 12-15 people represent all neighborhood safety initiatives on one community advisory committee (including STAR) - that means preserving and integrating the SCAC with this new office. We look forward to ongoing conversations with Dr. Ben Sanders - the chief of the Office of Social Equity & Innovation, mayor Johnston & the administration to see how they plan to protect & integrate what the community has led and driven since its establishment in their plan. Preserving community leadership is a leadership characteristic we are hopeful that can be reflected in the Johnston administration. #copolitics #denvercolorado #mayorjohnston #NeighborhoodSafety #copolitics #LocalNews #alternativetopolicing #DASHR Vinnie Cervantes Follow DASHR for updates and info #LocalIssues #CommunityLeadership Vinnie Cervantes https://lnkd.in/eR4GyQN7

Keynote Speaker | Author of Employalty | Boss Better Now podcast host | I teach leaders how to be better bosses & make work work for all | Speaking: JoeMull.com | Subscribe: BossBetterNow.com
At a private event I held for leaders last week, one of our attendees brought along this well-loved copy of Employalty. This photo doesn’t even do it justice. She had this thing tabbed to the max, color-coded, highlighted, notated, and paper-clipped throughout. This has happened to me a number of times since the book came out…where I’ve encountered someone with a copy that had been marked up throughout and clearly put to use. Each time this has happened, it’s the highest kind of compliment I can receive. This book has won some notable recognition since it was released 11 months ago. In fact, next week I’ll fly to Denver to attend the IBPA awards dinner, as Employalty is 1 of 3 finalists for the Ben Franklin writing award for best business book of the year. While I’d certainly love to win the award (that’d be pretty amazing, huh?), this kind of recognition - people enthusiastically using the book and the ideas inside to make work work for all - is far more meaningful to me. The owner of the book in this picture told me it might be “the most important book I’ve ever read.” She’s the Chief HR Officer of a community resources and social work agency. Amid a wild work landscape, she’s using the evidence-based framework to ensure her organization can find and keep the dedicated people driving programs like Headstart, Meals on Wheels, offender re-entry programs, foster care, rental assistance, homelessness prevention, wic, behavioral health services, and more. That she has found this book - and the strategies and tactics inside - so useful on her quest to do just that…well, there’s no award that can match how that feels. 🙏🏼❤️📙 #employalty #destinationworkplace #staffing #retention #IdealJob #meaningfulwork #greatboss #turnoverprevention #betheupgrade

As we come to the end of March celebrating Social Work Month, it's essential to recognize the profound impact that social workers have on our communities. They work tirelessly to uplift and support those in need, offering compassion and guidance during life's toughest moments. Social workers enter the profession because they genuinely want to help others. They go through years of education, training, and supervision so that they can do the important work of meeting people where they are and helping them achieve their goals. They play a crucial role in fostering positive change and ensuring the well-being of individuals, youth and families. They are integral partners with Clark & Floyd System of Care, providing crucial support and resources to help people navigate challenging circumstances. Let's take a moment to appreciate the dedication that social workers bring to our community! #SocialWorkMonth #SupportingOurCommunity #Gratitude #SWMonth2024 #EmpoweringSocialWorkers #NASW #CFSOC #systemofcare #communitysupport #mentalhealth #communitypartners #clarkfloyd #southernindiana #indiana

At the core of everything we do, is utilize our lived experiences to bridge connection to our community to support the elevation of others. We all have experiences that have led us to where we are, and why we are doing the work we are doing. We are here to celebrate our differences while bridging a community of diversity to bring us all together through employment advocacy initiatives. We believe in Peer Support, Peer 2 Peer Mentorship, and for those seeking recovery having the supports in place to drive consistent encouragement through Recovery Coaching. We recognize the importance of Harm Reduction, while maintaining a lens focused on health and prosperity for all individuals and for many that means recovery - whatever recovery means to that person. We are here to meet folks where they are and provide opportunities that reduce barriers to employment while maintaining a respectful atmosphere, and a community of trust and safety. #peersupport #peer2peer #recovery #recoverycoach #peermentor #womenforwomen #peerwork #transitionalemployment #workplaceadvocacy

Professional supervision is core to good practice. Having a professional space outside of your organisation can be difficult in practice to get the balance of case management vs progress and personal development. It is great to see SAFE space to explore all areas of the working life. Moving from defensive practices to reflective practices
Management Consultant, Clinical Supervisor, Speaker, Author, Lecturer, Podcaster. Focused on the Support and Development of those Working in the Social Care Sector. CORU registered Social Care Worker SCW-01228
I support those working in social care who may not be receiving good quality professional supervision in their workplaces. I work with frontline social care workers, supervisors, managers and teams across Ireland. Professional supervision is not about checking your work, it is about providing a space to reflect on the work, learn from practice and understand the impact of the work on ourselves. Increasing recognition for the benefits of professional supervision is clear in social care organisations but also among individual social care practitioners. If you're interested in receiving professional supervision, book a call back here: https://lnkd.in/ekhq_K-E

Today is my last day at the Oregon Department of Human Services, and it’s definitely a bittersweet moment. Even though my time here was short, ODHS has been an incredible place to work. I’m sharing a few (and there are so many more) reasons to work here: Culture: ODHS doesn’t just talk about DEI—they live it. Their Trauma Aware, RiSE culture, and Equity North Star values are at the core of everything, with plenty of resources and training to support staff well-being. This strong focus on DEI was one of the main reasons I wanted to work here. Onboarding and Training: From day one, the onboarding was thorough and well-structured. Their training is top-notch, with detailed resources and passionate employees who truly know their stuff. ERGs: ODHS offers great ways for employees to connect through ERGs, creating spaces where people feel supported and valued. These ERGs should be a model to other state agencies. Career Guidance: They truly invest in helping employees grow. There’s a group that helps with career paths, mock interviews, application tips, and more—a great resource if you’re looking to advance your career. Kindness and Empathy: After experiencing two unexpected family losses, the kindness I received from my managers, colleagues, and the FMLA team was beyond words. They gave me the time and support I needed to grieve, and I’ll never forget that. As I close this chapter, I’m excited about what’s next (more on that Monday). If you’re looking for meaningful work with an organization that truly values its employees and impacts all Oregonians, ODHS is the place for you! https://lnkd.in/gZW7s4ET
