Meet Kaival Raval, our talented GIS Student also based in Calgary! Kaival, who has completed his bachelor’s in GIS from SAIT College, is diving into exciting work with encroachment, proximity, and access, and crossing maps this summer at GeoVerra. Kaival’s most memorable moment so far: "My most memorable moment at GeoVerra was my first day. I remember feeling quite nervous since I didn't know anyone yet, but the warmth and professionalism of the team quickly put me at ease. They gave me a tour of the office, set up my desk, and explained how everything worked. To top it off, we went out for lunch together. The kindness and camaraderie I experienced made me feel like I had known everyone for ages." We’re excited to see you thrive at GeoVerra, Kaival, and wish you an inspiring and adventurous rest of the summer! #GeoVerra #StudentSpotlight #GISStudent #CalgaryAB #Mapping #SummerStudent

The only people who are not willing to step on such rocks are scientists and engineers, specifically civil engineers. With a cursory look, it can be seen that the shearing force in this area has caused the collapse of parts of this beautiful touristic rock due to extreme weather changes. One of the beauties of structural engineering is the possibility of simulating and calculating the amount of force that causes shearing and overturning moment, In other words, calculating the weight that can be the limit weight and also wind forces! Of course, this cannot be calculated without severe weather changes affecting the internal conditions of the stones. *** Preikestolen or Prekestolen (English: 'The Pulpit Rock', 'Pulpit', or 'Preacher's Chair') is a tourist attraction in the municipality of Strand in Rogaland county, Norway. Preikestolen is a steep cliff which rises 604 metres (1,982 ft) above Lysefjorden. Atop the cliff, there is an almost flat top of approximately 25 by 25 metres (82 ft × 82 ft). Preikestolen is located near the Western part of the fjord, and on its North side. Tourism at the site has been increasing in the early 21st century, with 300,000 visitors in 2024, making it one of the most visited natural tourist attractions in Norway. BASE jumpers often leap from the cliff. Due to its increased popularity, the most used path to the site (a3.8-kilometre (2.4 mi) long hike, was improved by Nepalese Sherpas in 2013. The cliff was formed during the ice age, approximately 10,000 years ago, when the edges of the glacier reached the cliff. The water from the glacier froze in the crevices of the mountain and eventually broke off large, angular blocks, which were later carried away with the glacier. This is the cause of the angular shape of the plateau. Along the plateau itself there continues to be a deep crack. Due to these cracks, the plateau will at some point fall down, but all the geological investigations have revealed that this will not happen in the foreseeable future, and geologists have confirmed the safety of the plateau. Mikalsen, Knut-Erik (17 July 2012). "Kan Preikestolen falle ned?" (in Norwegian). Aftenposten. #Preikestolen #ClimateChange #StructuralEngineering

🚨 HII Delivers Advanced REMUS 620 UUVs to NOAA – A Major Leap Forward for Ocean Mapping and Restoration! 🌊 Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has delivered two state-of-the-art REMUS 620 uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs) to NOAA, specifically designed for high-resolution ocean floor mapping. 🌍 This is huge news for ocean research and restoration! The REMUS 620, introduced in 2022, represents a significant advancement in UUV technology. With its enhanced capabilities—both above and below water—it’s tailor-made for long-distance operations, helping NOAA accelerate critical environmental efforts. These vehicles will be deployed in the Gulf of Mexico to restore seafloor habitats damaged by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, pushing forward marine exploration and habitat restoration like never before. 🚤🌱 HII’s swift delivery highlights the growing demand for the REMUS 620 and its ability to deliver cutting-edge technology that meets urgent mission needs. NOAA’s use of these advanced UUVs will transform habitat restoration, marine archaeology, and oceanographic research—enhancing our ability to protect and understand the marine environment. 🌊 Globally, over 600 REMUS UUVs are in operation across more than 30 countries, including 14 NATO member nations, and their longevity speaks volumes about their durability and versatility. This is a major step forward for ocean tech, sustainability, and environmental recovery. #OceanTech #UUV #MarineResearch #EnvironmentalRestoration #Innovation #Sustainability #OceanMapping #DeepwaterHorizon #NOAA #FutureOfOceans
