This is a great case study for Adaptive Reuse! Would've never imagined in 2000s that the classic American mall would go out of fashion. But 20 years later, as many mall buildings lay vacant and in decay, some innovative developers are converting malls into mixed residential and commercial spaces thus revitalizing and saving the building without the need for demolition and complete rehaul of the area. This new model isn't only a environmental friendly but also fosters community living and builds strong patronage for the commerce within the mall thus creating a win-win situation. This can definitely used as an inspiration for Adaptive Reuse of old Big Bazaar buildings and other defunct commercial spaces in India. https://lnkd.in/dCPgyvwf

Every mall must have USPs. Without one, your mall will be lost amongst a homogenous retail and tenant mix. There must be one or two things or items with your services, facilities and amenities, stores, F&Bs , and other mix that stand out distinctively above the rest. When in KLIA, I’ll make it a point to use the Premium Lounge specially for its Curry Laksa; nothing else. It’s T.O.M. for me and command loyalty from me. What about your malls? Any particular mall with USP of certain that tickles your fancy to earn your regular visit?

In May, Capital One Shopping Research released that the United States is home to an estimated 1,150 malls with projections that in the next ten years, there may be as few as 150 malls still in operation. However, of the malls that have closed in the US, 16% reopened as mixed use centers and 53% of malls either reopened or were transformed to suit a variety of other applications by 2024.
