Had the pleasure to join the "#GovTech in France and Germany - How can Startups foster Innovation in Public Sector?" event for a keynote sharing experiences from our #mygovernment initiative and interviews conducted with GovTech entrepreneurs in Germany Three key points from my keynote: 📍 GovTechs constitute a dynamic but immature field characterized by the intersection of two key tensions (mission success vs. commercial success and startup-practices vs. bureaucratic practices) and substantial challenges to successfully collaborate with government; 📍 Existing government ecosystem initiatives to support GovTeechs are not sufficiently tailored to the needs of GovTechs („contacts instead of contracts“) and public administration is often lacking an understanding of GovTech (eg. demanding tailorized on-premise solutions limiting scaling effects for GovTechs); 📍 Sharing some ideas how collaboration can work and what governments can do to create more favourable conditions for GovTechs (with #GovTechHH being a showcase example) Very best thanks for French Tech Berlin, Mazars in Germany and Possible (ehem. PUBLIC Deutschland) for organizing the event together with our Hertie School Centre for Digital Governance.   The discussions were really insightful, highlighting the potentials but also challenges of GovTech and its potential to stimulate the public sector through innovation and digitalization.
