“America does not have royalty. It has the Academy Awards. For nine decades, perfectly coiffed starlets, debonair leading men, and producers with gold in their eyes have chased the elusive Oscar. What began as an industry banquet in 1929 has now exploded into a hallowed ceremony, complete with red carpets, envelopes, and little gold men. But don’t be fooled by the pomp: the Oscars, more than anything, are a battlefield, where the history of Hollywood—and of America itself—unfolds in dramas large and small. The road to the Oscars may be golden, but it’s paved in blood, sweat, and broken hearts. In Oscar Wars, Michael Schulman chronicles the remarkable, sprawling history of the Academy Awards and the personal dramas—some iconic, others never-before-revealed—that have played out on the stage and off camera. Unlike other books on the subject, each chapter takes a deep dive into a particular year, conflict, or even category that tells a larger story of cultural change, from Louis B. Mayer to Moonlight. Schulman examines how the red carpet runs through contested turf, and the victors aren't always as clear as the names drawn from envelopes. Caught in the crossfire are people: their thwarted ambitions, their artistic epiphanies, their messy collaborations, their dreams fulfilled or dashed. Featuring a star-studded cast of some of the most powerful Hollywood players of today and yesterday, as well as outsiders who stormed the palace gates, this captivating history is a collection of revelatory tales, each representing a turning point for the Academy, for the movies, or for the culture at large.” #heritage #oscars #academyawards #cinema #films #movie #KunzumBooks

A couple of weeks ago I had the honour and pleasure of delivering a morning session with the title of 'Exploring Sensorial Futures' for the Oosterwold Almere based theatre company the Gouden Haas Haas. The founder and artistic director gienke deuten has a passion to use the theatre as a medium to increase public awareness of and contact with, the state of the planet. For example last year I was part of an invited Gouden Haas group, developing themes and processes, that informed last years featured performance 'Herinner Ons' (Remember us) dedicated to highlighting and making more visible the species extinction crisis. This years main theme is on the 'Future'. I spoke with Gienke, about my approach to living protopian, prefigurative futures, now in the present moment. I observed so much futuring work, involves speculation, projection, hypotheses and calculation, which mostly lands in people as distanced possibilities or abstraction. Also many of these products and artefacts I feel are merely reifications of the current paradigm cloaked in new clothing. So my approach in this Exploring Sensorial Futures session, was to bring the sense of possibility and potential closer to each persons lived experience, through art based methods, journalling systemic sensing and consciousness expansion. The goal being to assist the theatre company, develop a shared vocabulary and language, to inform the creative process which would help produce the eventual final performance. I was very pleased to be informed by Gienke last week, some the issues we explored in the session will help frame sequences and themes explored in the final performance. If embodied grounded approaches to enacting saner tangible futres for all do reach out via DM or stay in regular contact sign up for my newsletter here https://buff.ly/3SEyiui #art #theatre #ecology #future #protopia #embodiment

Extraordinary Claims Require Extraordinary Evidence - Carl Sagan This bodes true regarding Alan Greens's revealing of The America Codes, which I have the privilege to Present the first 3 Videos of Alan's 22 part series. Join us Thursday, October 24th from 7-9pm at the 1111 Event Space, 1111 West 29th Street in KCMO. RSVP for this FREE Event so we can get a count of how many people are interested in having a front row seat to history: https://lnkd.in/gqyb8wZJ Alan Green is a British-born pianist, composer, author and Shakespeare scholar. He has spent the last 20 years devoted to deciphering a stunning web of codes hidden within the Shakespeare works which finally solves history’s most persistent cover-up. See His Series ‘Shakespeare Decoded’ on Gaia - He’s the only person, in four hundred years, to have deciphered the codes that tell the WHOLE story of who Shakespeare was and the scandalous royal secret that necessitated the cover-up. More than that, he’s NOW identified that this SAME coding technique is somehow tied to the founding of the United States itself - and these same codes are embedded within the U.S. Constitution, The Bill of Rights, and The Declaration of Independence! – What will these codes tell us? Alan is in the middle of releasing a 22-part video series in a 60-day schedule, a Herculanian effort to say the least! And in these Turbulent Times, wouldn’t knowing the exact hidden meanings of our Founding Fathers be the best thing for our Direction Forward as a Republic, as well as for Civilization Itself? Suggested donation at door: $21 For the 22+ Video America Codes Access: $144 For questions about the live presentation & screening, please call blakeArt® direct 312.316.1121 or email direct: info@reality-reDesign.com

How do you approach editing a film with a strong story? Video editing is much more than a series of technical cuts. It's an art that provides rhythm to the narrative, shapes emotions, and ensures that each scene reinforces the film's overall message. Our editing decisions shape how stories are perceived and felt. In recent years, I had the opportunity to work on a documentary with an exceptional story, "The Oath of Cyriac." From the beginning, I was captivated by the story, so much so that I transcended my role as a video editor and became a co-producer of the film. This experience showed me how deeply immersing oneself in the narrative can expand our role and impact in cinematic creation. My deep commitment to the film's story enriched every editing decision I made, allowing me to weave the nuances of the plot with increased sensitivity and meticulous attention to every detail. Working closely with the director, we explored different ways to present the narrative, which sometimes led to bold choices but always served the powerful story we wanted to tell. Today, journalist Rolf Brockschmidt from the excellent newspaper Tagesspiegel has brought this story to the forefront of the German public, and I am deeply grateful to him. I also want to thank the entire film team and all the actors. Without them, none of this would have been possible, and they deserve recognition for their work! I invite you to share your own experiences with editing films that have a strong narrative charge. How has your personal connection with the story influenced your editing choices? How do you handle the challenges of respecting the director’s vision while adding your personal touch? #VideoEditing #Storytelling #FilmEditing #Cinema
Many thanks to Rolf Brockschmidt and the excellent newspaper Tagesspiegel for bringing "The Oath of Cyriac" story to the German public. If like me, you don't speak German :), no worries, you can use Deepl to translate it into your language. A film is never born under a lucky star, never arrives on your screens by chance. "The Oath of Cyriac" is firstly the fruit of the courage of a small group of archaeologists, museum curators and students to save a museum on the front line, then of the tenacity of a team to make it into a film, then hundreds of people who helped make this film come to life, thousands of people who discovered it in theaters or festivals, media who relayed its existence, the work of our distributor, the support of NGOs, cultural institutions, ... Everyone is important, every voice matters, each in their own way contributes their stone to the building. So a huge thank you to all of you for your invaluable support and for giving us the energy to continue to transmit this story and the messages it conveys: Maamoun Abdulkarim, franck meyer, #HoumamSaad, loqman rustom Nicolas Verlhiac Lamis Bakjaji Despina Baslan Rahaf Hamwi #allAleppoMuseumTeam Cristina Menegazzi, PhD, Reme Sakr Alessio RE Frédéric Pichon François Janne d'Othée Emma Pettersson Lluis Alfons KINDER ESPINOSA Majd Shook Ali Mohammad Marion Le Gallen Nicolas ZUNINO Giorgio Buccellati Yaarob ALABDULLAH Sandrine Mary balsam hs Eleonora Tomasini Olivier Oudon Marie Courselaud Samir Abdulac Nelly Cauliez Bouclier bleu France Cinemoz Group Carol Mezher Talal Al-Muhanna Charlotte HOANG Ruba Alsharki Philippe Yacoub

IN GOD WE TRUST, ALL OTHERS MUST BRING DATA (INCLUDING YOU!) Its no new news that the entertainment industry is going through a massive pivot. The value chain is going from producer centric to creator/audience centric (kudos Doug Shapiro for outlining it very clearly). Streaming landscape is ultra competitive (as Evan Shapīro has pointed out in his recent excellent writings). Add European elections, economic pressures, conflicts and reverberations of COVID and SAG strikes. In this enviroment executives, ecosystem leaders, and policymakers (either straight in governments, film and media orgs or elswhere) have to make some tough decisions. And gut feeling does not help (always). Our colleagues Jakob Isak Nielsen, @Cathrin Bengesser, @Ivana Kostovska, Marius Øfsti & et al at CresCine have put together a remarkable dossier on the State of small European (film) markets. Its comprehensive, solid, interactive and easy to explore - a total must read for anyone in this business. Excerpt from the animated film Les Déplacements Internes (Internal Displacements), produced by Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains. Original musical score by Hans Op de Beeck. - War for breakfast: our curated feeds deliver daily bloodshed through explicit images and videos mere inches from our eyes, often accompanied by swiftly read comments. The visuals evoke immediate passion, yet processing violence and chaos proves painstakingly difficult. Words like "annihilate," "eradicate," "destroy," and "loss of life" flood our senses, but assessment remains elusive. The destruction wrought by war extends tragically beyond razed buildings and death. Nearly two years in, the Russo-Ukraine war persists. Transnistria, the breakaway region nestled between Moldova and Ukraine, recently seeks integration with Russia. This unrecognized sliver of land hosts a populace of deracinated and internally displaced individuals trapped in a temporal stasis. In 1990, the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic, or Transnistria, was established with hopes the Soviet Union would endure. Four languages—Romanian, Russian, Ukrainian, and "Moldavian"—are spoken daily between Transnistria and Moldova. This political entity, with its unique cultural attributes, remains unrecognized by international community, including Russia, which maintains deployed troops in the region.

Would Hollywood be Hollywood at all without all the Jewish talent- who were the founders, the pillars, the stars and the those behind the limelight? Europe’s loss during the Nazi dictatorship was a win for the US film industry. Just look at the names… and you’ll see the icons and the legends. The list is just a short excerpt and there are many, many more … Samuel Goldwyn, Carl Laemmle, William Fox, Louis B. Mayer, and the four Warner Brothers (Harry, Albert, Samuel, and Jack), During the 1930s and 1940s the rise of Nazism in Europe saw large migrations of Jewish talent to Hollywood like Billy Wilder, Hedy Lamarr, Peter Lorre, Paul Henreid, Sam Spiegel, and Vicki Baum, all of whom fled Austria. The directors Ernst Lubitsch, Fritz Lang and Fred Zinnemann .Star comedians like Szöke Szakall or Felix Bressart . There was Max Steiner’s creation of Hollywood sound and further featuring such Austrian Jewish composers as Erich Korngold and Hanns Eisler, 80 percent of all comedians were Jewish like Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Woody Allen, Gene Wilder, and Neil Simon Let’s not forget the iconic and incredible Barbra Streisand . You are more than welcome to add your favourites and names to the list. https://lnkd.in/di3RCUsC
