Top R&D Voice/ Senior Material Scientist with expertise on the development of advanced analytical techniques for complex material characterization/ Biorefinery Specialist with innovative skills in biorefinery development
Interviewing for a Senior R&D Scientist role.... Technical screening is a prerequisite in the R&D hiring process. It provides a platform to ascertain the proficiency level of the candidate. The candidate should be able to demonstrate extensive exposure in the field. R&D function is the backbone and heartbeat of any business that is progressive, innovative and adaptable (versatile) hence the candidate should be able to demonstrate these traits. R&D as a department feeds into and from many organs of the organization, therefore the candidate should be able to demonstrate a collaborative nature by being part of cross-functional teams in his or her past experience. This is important because cross-functional teams encourage diverse perspectives, innovation, foster an inclusive&open environment for critical and creative thinking. The interviewing panel also has a responsibility of invoking a healthy and a very good learning dialogue during the process. It is important not to turn it into a grilling and fault finding experience. FYI: We have a mandate of encouraging continuous learning..... ✔

What are ways you (as a candidate) show you've done your research into the company you are interviewing with? Please share in the comments! 🌟 One way is to research the people on the interview team that are interviewing you! Not just the hiring manager!! 🌟 Saying something like, "I saw on Linkedin you started recently at Company XYZ. What has your experience been like as a new employee?". This is a thoughtful question and shows you prepared for the interview. What no one tells you about being a technical recruiter is that your google algorithm gets really messed up. To recruit on our positions we often have to do a lot of googling about various subjects to learn enough to have a decent conversation with candidates. After a while you start getting ads for laboratory instrumentation, HPLC columns, various pharmaceuticals, and a litany of other random things. When Thermofisher is advertising between Ms Rachel videos (if you know you know #toddler) you might have a problem. On another note there are multiple heat advisories across NorCal this week. Its super hot... You know what else is hot? Our jobs! Tackling unconscious bias in your hiring process can feel like an uphill battle, because how do you even know you’re doing it? Luckily, there are practices and processes you can put in place to catch this behaviour before you accidentally implement it…and here’s a great one. #hiring #bias #structuredinterviews #biotech #biotechnology
