The United Nations UN Food Systems Coordination Hub has signalled its strong support for the food system transformation process in Benin led by the Zero Hunger Coalition. Its Deputy Director, Sylvia Lopez-Ekra, welcomed the re-launch of the national dialogue and participated in the national consultation meeting a few weeks ago. She laid out six recommendations from the UN Secretary General: 1️⃣ Embedding food system transformation in national development and climate plans   2️⃣ Adopting a multisectoral governance approach  3️⃣ Investing in research, data, science and innovation  4️⃣ Promoting inclusivity among stakeholders  5️⃣ Engaging with the private sector  6️⃣ Accessing new financial opportunities We look forward to working with stakeholders in Benin. A Firsthand Look at the Impact of Insecurity on Nigeria's Food Security During a visit at one of the IDP Camps in Edo State, I witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of insurgency and insecurity on our people. The heartbreaking stories of the displaced farmers, forced to leave their homes and livelihoods, exposed how insurgency has affected the nation's food production. The ongoing insurgency in the North has forced millions of farmers to flee their homes and livelihood, leaving vast tracts of fertile land idle. These were part of the conversations discussed at the World Food Day event, organized by FDI HUB - Foodpreneurship Development and Innovation Hub and Edo State Food and Agric Cluster (edofac), in October, 2024. Neyeleni 2024 Africa level meeting on food sovereignty held in Addis Ababa PHE Ethiopia Consortium Co-hosted Africa Level Consultation workshop PHEEC in collaboration with International Planning Committee(IPC) for food sovereignty Organized a successful Continental Level three days Consultation workshop from July 13 to 15, 2024 at Gold Tulip Hotel, Addis Ababa. In this consultation, about 40 (31 international participants from West, Central, East and Southern Africa) have participated in person representing the small-holder farmers, environmental CSOs, fisher folks, herders, pastorals, and Indigenous Peoples, agricultural workers, consumers, women, youth, forest dwellers, NGOs, and urban Poor. In addition, more than 20 participants attended the consultation representing the above constituencies. The workshop was conducted in two languages (English and French). The Africa Neyeleni Consultation is one of the consultation the six consultation in different regions: North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, MENA, and Asia and the Pacific. The Neyeleni is movement initiated in 2007 to advocate for food sovereignty. This consultation is the pre-global Neyeleni forum which will be held in 2025 in India. The consultation was held focusing on building a common political agenda, strategies and working methods to transform the global system to achieve economic, social, gender, health, racial and environmental goals and ultimately achieve food sovereignty.
