TEN things about Temporary Event Notices (“TENs”): 1. Per the below, we’re back to the “old” allowance for TENs (15 TENs covering no more than 21 days per calendar 📅 year). 2. You can give a TEN as far in advance of your event as you like. In my 📕, there’s really no excuse 🤷🏻♂️ for giving Late TENs. 3. Conversely, there are deadlines for giving a TEN or a Late TEN before an event (at least 10 clear working days/at least 5 clear working days respectively). 4. Moving on, clear working days DOES NOT include the day you give the notice or the day of the event. 5. Working days no longer includes Monday or Friday. I JOKE, but do remember deadlines for TENs are calculated in “working days” and not “days.” People forget that. 6. Giving a Late TEN last thing on a Friday afternoon will make you immensely unpopular 🤬 with Licensing, Police and Evironmental Health Officers. If you *must* give a Late TEN then a quick phone 📞 call to the likely recipients will soften the blow. 7. Don’t just assume you have to give TEN for a particular event. Have a look at the non-standard timings on your premises Licence first. You may be pleasantly surprised 😀. 8. There are legal requirements for keeping a copy of the TEN at the event though I’m going to stick my neck 🦒 out and say these are honoured in the breach. 9. The maximum duration of a TEN is 168 hours (7 days) but there must be at least 24 hours between each TEN you give. 10. I started writing this thinking “oh God, how am I going to find 10 things to say about TENs” 🤦🏻♂️ but actually, there’s much more I could say. Having said that, if I gave the game away completely, I’d be out of a job quicker than you can say Temporary Event Notice. Got ?s - please get in touch. Thanks for reading 👍🏻

'The industry is failing its people'. Agree or disagree? Last night, in collaboration with the Alliance of Independent Event Agencies, The Cambridge Union and MPI UK & Ireland Chapter, we hosted a group of wonderful industry friends in Cambridge to participate in the annual Great Debate. With HUGE thanks to Philip Greer and Katherine Connelly at University Arms, Cambridge for hosting us for a gorgeous afternoon tea, ahead of drinks and canapés at Hilton Cambridge City Centre with Catherine Merlini. Your hospitality, your support and your people were wonderful. Rachel Belliere-Wilson, Lindsay Conroy and Martin Fullard put up a great argument, with more compelling points than we can mention in one post, yet the overall winners were the opposition. Kate Nicholls OBE, Sally Beck MI FIH and Peter Hancock walked away as winners, drawing from their personal experience of our industry, and pride in our strength and diversity, and the opportunity for all across events and hospitality. Our industry is one built upon the passion of its people, the relationships we create and nurture, and the collaborative approach we all take in delivering above and beyond for our clients. I think there's a definite agreement that we can be better, but for the most part, the resounding feeling from the evening was that this industry is a joy to be a part of, bringing together the best bunch of like minded individuals with talent and expertise beyond measure. A fam trip with a difference, full of lessons and thought provoking statements that I am sure will have us all talking (and maybe arguing!) for a few more weeks yet! ---------- 🌳 We’re Vine Tree Connections - Emma Waycot, Marleen Mason & Rachael Boraston 🏆 An award winning representation company, working with MICE hotels throughout the UK, Europe & Worldwide Do you want to see more from us? 🔔 Ring the bell on our profile to be notified of all our posts ➕ Connect with us as individuals or follow our page 💬 Comment below to start the conversation - we'd love to chat! #MiceUK #hotelsales #MICEHotels #eventprofsuk #thegreatdebate #hotelrepresentation

Every year IMEX Frankfurt is a great opportunity for VGF - Pre-financing & Guarantee Fund to be present. Not only to be able talk to new, potential organizers of international conferences in the Netherlands, but also to strengthen our relationships with existing partners of the NBTC Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions. Meeting new people, seeing familiar faces in the Netherlands Booth and having conversations about how VGF can offer help always brings a smile to the face of Paul Gruijthuijsen. But it's not just about explaining the benefits of this special and globally unique instrument called VGF that people appreciate so much. The fact that the Netherlands offers the opportunity to reduce financial risks is viewed with some envy by fellow countries and destinations, and it gives the Netherlands a small competitive edge over the rest of the world. The VGF alone can not make the difference. A difference can only be made thanks to the close collaboration with the various Convention Bureaus in the Netherlands, the representatives of the different conference venues and the relationship we have with the Dutch Professional Congress Organizers. We are excited to share that James Connell’s article on the art of translating UK event excellence overseas has been published by Conference & Incentive Travel (C&IT) magazine! In the article, James discusses the challenges and opportunities of delivering large-scale international events, and shares four key areas to keep in mind when planning these events: 1. Expertise as standard: Your clients are buying your expertise and delivery standards, so you must deliver as if you were on your home turf. 2. Location, location, location: Don't just default to multi-market hotel chains. Consider using local venues that can help attendees experience the local culture. 3. Paying it forward: Work with trusted local suppliers to reduce the carbon footprint of your event and keep the budget within the local economy. 4. Pragmatic production: Be flexible and adaptable, and be prepared to evolve your vision or dig deep into the budget if necessary.
