I'm a technologist and consultant at heart and passionate about exceptional customer service & customer experience which ultimately makes customers successful. Skills & experience across many industries & technologies.
Moving to Cairns in Far North Queensland (FNQ) has been challenging on many fronts. Most of the challenges are obvious: the weather, physically moving, finding a home, meeting new people and making friends. The one that I thought would be easiest turned out to be the most difficult.... finding a job! I relocated from Sydney in April 2023 and I had a remote job at the time. Then in August my employer decided to cut costs and I was let go. I reminded myself their decision was purely about cost and not value. I delivered enormous value to my employer and their customers. There's a reason I earned a reputation for being the go to guy who solves difficult problems and gets the nickname "The Oracle". After sending out 65 job applications with a handful of interviews and no job yet (more on this in another post), I decided to change direction. I left the idea of certainty behind and no longer tied myself to one mode of employment. I went from unemployed to now having three jobs! 1. Azstar Technologies - a medium sized technical services company with operations in Cairns and servicing FNQ. They have contracts with banks and large managed services companies to service EFTPOS machines and related retail equipment, gaming machines (poker machines), and even network gear and servers. I'm a field technician (casual)! I go out to customers big and small and fix/replace/upgrade the machines that keep their businesses alive! 2. Geeks2U - They help home users and small businesses with technology problems. I partner with them to deliver the services, troubleshooting, setting up networks and home automation, training or anything else the customer needs. I set my own availability, times, and days to work. 3. Higher Oak - Experience Management experts helping companies design, build and run customer experience programs that can truly deliver value for their customers, shareholders and employees. I'm their Digital Expert working remotely, adding value to their customers, and making their Digital Experience Management programs work for them! I make myself generally available and will work on projects as and when required. I'm happy with this decision and enjoy the variety that it brings. There are many other benefits - maybe I'll write about that later also. Cheers and Happy New Year to you all.
