My entry level into sales and marketing was very difficult when I joined a beverage distribution company many years ago... Before, we were ranked based on our performance and At the end of the month, the company would award a prize or promotion in the team that performed well during that specific period... This encourages healthy competition within the team grouped into three sections. the goal was to improve each member to increase their sales performance so that the company can benefit and exponentially increase their revenue and can afford to pay their sales team what they deserve in terms of benefits and price... As there were few companies that were trying to monopolize the market with their new gadget equipment which we find very sophisticated, it was a challenge to offer our service against all odds, because the market was quite demanding with innovative products... We were stuck in what was personalized unfortunately this was updating and the company had to invest in the acquisition of new products and in equipment so that our sales force could emerge.. We did what we could and always try to innovate with what we had by going to different territories to present our product to customers who needed the basis of our service to be able to sell to their customers.

Distributor's Key Role: Owning the whole Business Process This request post is long-pending. Many of you, especially new entrants in #salesandmarketing domain, have been asking me about the roles and responsibilities of a #distributor. Who is a Distributor? Distributors are defined as #StrategicBusinessPartners for the manufacturers. They are effectively an alternative #RoutetoMarket, replacing the company’s direct sales force. Usually, a distributor has a written contract with company and is responsible for sales, distribution and merchandising of a designated portfolio of products in an assigned geographical territory. What are the #RolesandResponsibilities of a Distributor? I have tried to list down as many as possible: 🔵 Work to achieve agreed objectives in respect to: Targeted Sales Value and Volume, Distribution by channel and outlet type, Trade Standards and Efficient use of Trade spend. Provide a level of service that meets the requirements of customers within each trade channel 🔵 Carry adequate stock of products to meet customer demand. Obtain market distribution, at prices and margins competitive with alternative products, within agreed distribution parameters by #tradechannel and outlet type. Distribute efficiently, meeting the needs of the trade channels. 🔵 Operates in an efficient manner to deliver profitable outcomes. Manage key customers within agreed guidelines and in the best interest of the company's brands. Promote the brands through promotional activities within agreed guidelines, strategies, plans and budgets. Also extend competitive trade credit according to local custom and practice. 🔵 Provide an organizational structure, both in quality and numbers, capable of achieving agreed objectives and implementing agreed plan. Deploy sufficient resources to adequately cover the assigned territory. Provide sales force coverage geared to: achieving distribution objectives, covering all suitable current and new outlets to make the brands available, providing display and merchandising support. With the manufacturer, jointly train staff in product knowledge, professional skills in sales, field operations and distribution management. 🔵 Provide sales data to assist in the mutual profitable growth of the business. Provide competitive market and trade structure intelligence reports to the company. Participate in the annual sales planning process, providing local expertise and input and transparent performance reports. Represent organization in an ethical and professional manner. To sum up, a Distributor's Key Roles are two: Owning the #BusinessProcess and owning the #SalesProcess. The attached diagram says it all. Functions Overall, assists the Trade Marketing Group (TMG) Head in increasing visibility for DITO Telecommunity Brand/Products on-the-ground and attainment of its brand health, customer satisfaction and subscriber acquisition, revenue targets. Regional Trade Marketing Program Development and Operations: Creates a full-year calendar of regional Below-The-Line or On-ground Activities (merchandising and community building) and prepares resources needed based on targets as aligned with the overall top-line directions of the Trade Marketing Group Head following brand and marketing guidelines, products/services roadmap in collaboration with sales partners. Set the Vision and Strategy for Trade Marketing Roadmap Develop, Implement, and Evaluate Trade Marketing Programs Identify opportunities to scale our Trade Marketing Operations efforts in the mid to long-term set-up. Assess existing Trade Marketing Programs, processes, and identify opportunities for improvement. Budget and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Management: Creation, tracking, and submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual Budget and Metric Status Report to TMG Head, for consolidation and approval. Submits a monthly report of regional budget forecast, cash flow, accruals, and payables to finance while KPI status is provided to the TMG Head. Inter-Department / Cross-Functional Team Coordination: End-to-End Direct Coordination, Documentation, and Processing of Trade Marketing requirements with various internal groups from Procurement, Supply Chain, Finance, Legal, Sales Process Automation (SPA), Information Technology (IT), Channels (General Trade, eChannels, Modern Trade, Enterprise), and other related groups for trade marketing programs on merchandising, strategic partnerships, and events. Vendor Management: Ensures and monitors regular Third-Party Agency coordination and management for merchandisers and activators on merchandising, sales blitzes, events, and other services. Closely monitors Installation Rate (vs produced, deployed merchandising materials), Productivity Rate (vs. target number of stores merchandised), and adherence to the DITO Merchandising Installation Guidelines on retailers, sales blitzes, events. Provides a monthly report of installation and productivity rate of TPAs to TMG head as key metrics.
