PO and Fujitsu knew problems with Horizon could cause unexplained losses in PO branches. Phase 3 public inquiry revealed a concerted effort to keep this knowledge out of the accused post office sub postmaster network. https://lnkd.in/eqAR7YU4 #postoffice #computerweekly #governmentscandal

#Fujitsu whistleblowers are sharing important information with the media, a step which typically results from failures to address issues internally and/or due to fear of reprisals. Despite the personal risks, their revelations are key to understanding the extent to which actions by #Fujitsu contradict their public commitments, and so in the public interest. Despite this they have limited protection under the law. For effective governance, particularly in #tech and #ai, establishing safe reporting options is essential. We need an #OfficeoftheWhistleblower and a dedicated Tech & AI regulatory body without further delay. #WhistleblowingBill #AIregulation #techethics

Yes but the usual situation (in my experience without exception ) is that the customer escalates the problems to the supplier .The level of the escalation is usually proportionate to the severity of the situation .It is then up to the supplier to respond and either fix the problems to the satisfaction of the customer or remove the system . Why was the usual route not taken .The PO through a number of years and different management allowed the supplier to continue and made critical business decisions based on flawed data . Fujitsu's culpability depends on how they reported errors and probably lies in the project strategy
https://lnkd.in/enRRSJ9C Having been in the IT Industry for all my working life, I find it impossible to believe that the defects in the Horizon system weren’t known by Fujitsu's senior management. If true, how the team was allowed to manipulate(they will say ‘correct’) data without detailed records and without advising their client is incomprehensible/reprehensible. Please sign up.

They don’t fix. They advise management on how to fix. As is the case with other professional services, contracts now are for a fixed price rather than billable hours. It’s challenging to show cost/benefit unless the the issue is clear cut.

More Horizon evidence. I am reading an article about Paul Patterson's evidence to the inquiry. 1. Fujitsu knew there were serious bugs in 1999. 2. That information detailing the effects and severity was shared with the Post Office. 3. Transaction data was not checked prior to being presented to the court. 4. Fujitsu witness statements were 'edited' to remove any reference to software bugs. (I would call that tampering). 5. Fujitsu charged up to £20k per witness. No wonder the legal bills were so high. Add all that together and it puts Fujitsu expert witnesses, the Post Office and possibly their legal team (who edited the witness statements?) in a very interesting position. #horizon #justicematters #perversionofjustice #postoffice
