The first line of communication is important. We salute those that step up every shift to answer the calls.

Comprehensive use-of-force training is one key to giving our law enforcement officers every opportunity to be prepared for what may happen on shift.

STREET SCENE SYSTEM OF TRAINING (SSST) LEVEL 4 - PISTOL CQB Question - How do we create space, when there is no room to create it? Answer - We don't even try to. 👉 Think elevators, restrooms, stairwells, corridors, confined public spaces, and/or, a multiple threat/crowd situation. 👉 For those that opine "...if you find yourself in this situation, then you've done something wrong..."...well, I can't help you with that, nor do I have the crayons to explain why you might find yourself in a situation like this, and, even if you have messed up, you still need to get yourself out of it. 👉 We've taught this to undercover law enforcement units, armed executive protection officers, government agencies and concealed carriers. 👉 It's an aggressive procedure, requiring a certain mindset, but it is a procedure that allows you to take back control of a situation, that you haven't instigated, and that will very quickly become untenable. 👉 3-4 seconds of maximum "proactive" violence prevents 1-2 minutes of "reactive" response, where the longer you take to deal with this, the less chance there is of surviving it. See our first WICL Manchester event of the year, kindly hosted by NINESTJOHNSTREET. This educational event is centred around police station advice. Advising individuals at the police station is a delicate dance between legal expertise and interpersonal finesse. As legal professionals, we step into a high-stakes arena where our guidance can significantly impact a person's rights, freedom, and future. The art lies not only in knowing the law but also in empathising with the anxiety, confusion, and vulnerability that often accompany police custody and many clients. The focus will be on the age-old question "to speak or not to speak"? Each case is unique - we assess the situation swiftly: Our advice must be tailored, considering both immediate decisions and long-term consequences. The training event will be an open discussion using real cases on views on advice and implications. There often isn't a right or wrong answer. The session will focus on the initial advice but also the trial stage when this advice is under the spotlight. PBS Documentary Inside the Uvalde Response I just watched the PBS documentary on the Uvalde response, and it's a must-watch for all first responders. Here are some key takeaways:  https://lnkd.in/g_i5UQGw ·        Officers thought they were responding to a car accident ·        Teachers and students were taught to be silent so law enforcement didn’t know they were there. It took 20 minutes to realize people were still in the building. ·        Radios could not communicate outside of the building ·        Initially thought they had a barricaded subject then heard shooting and transitioned to an active shooter response ·        An Officer got a call from his wife who was a teacher inside the school ·        Lack of ballistic protection ·        No command post or IC ·        Agencies don’t work together ·        A student from school called 911 gave her location and reported injured students ·        Couldn't find the keys to the building. No master key. ·        Split incident Tactical teams did not know how to communicate with each other ·        Police blocked traffic corridors ·        Parents started arriving and wanted answers ·        The door was likely unlocked ·        Most students were killed in the first two minutes ·         We at ISG invite you to learn from these challenges and to improve our emergency response systems. This course is designed to prepare first responders for an open-air active shooter encounter. It addresses a wide range of tactics and techniques when addressing an exterior armed aggressor. This hands on course will cover equipment selection, vehicle ambushes, medical emergencies, vehicle and dismounted officer/citizen down rescue, individual/ team movement techniques, and emergency vehicle crisis response. Some participants attending this course have found it to be physically challenging. Officers attending this course should be able to walk moderate distances, jog, kneel, crawl, and lift moderate weight. This is an outside class and is routinely conducted during inclement weather conditions. These classes meet the 16 hr TCOLE requirements. All 50 States and the District of Columbia have Move Over laws to protect emergency responders, requiring drivers to slow down and, if possible, move over for all responders, including, police, fire, EMS, tow trucks, and public works. During this Crash Responder Safety Week—and every week— protect those who protect you on our roadways.
