Rebecca Dunn Wayapa Practitioner has just opened the 2024 Thriving Workplace event with a powerful session about connecting with ourselves, each other and our precious land.
Wayapa® is an earth connection practice that is based on ancient Indigenous wisdom that focuses on taking care of the Earth as the starting point for creating Earth Mind Body Spirit well-being.
Here’s just a little of the wisdom Rebecca shared:
Humans are at a cross roads.
We continue to be driven by greed and ego.
We can continue to be polarised.
We can continue think that we are above all other aspects of nature.
Or we can understand that everything we do to the earth we do to ourselves.
We can understand that when we take care of the earth we take care of ourselves.
And together, we can create new systems that support us to truely thrive.
We are all leaders - we are all “boss of self” and it’s our responsibility to take care of ourselves, our communities and our country.
What’s your connection with the earth?

Next week we’re deep diving the ‘soldier-on’ industries & how we can effect positive behaviour change for those that need it most.
What’s a soldier-on industry? It’s one where the instinct of many employees is to push through physical & emotional discomfort, often until they break.
It’s an industry where even when you implement employee health programs, most won’t utilise them.
This puts managers in a tricky position, leading to frustration and poor culture. $$$ is spent on training, EAP’s, EIP’s - yet workers comp claims don’t reduce.
Is there a better way? Is there a way we can address the elephant in the room, and really understand these soldiering on behaviours for what they are?

Let’s start to build workplaces where employees feel safe to ask for help. that motivate them to be healthier. Let's then close the loop with good job design so they aren’t hurting in the first place.
See you there!
Matt
Even though the temperature outside was COLD - COLD - COLD, the conversation around our table on Tuesday at the Workforce and Talent Salon was HOT - HOT - HOT!
The topic was "Should Work Be Considered Family?" On the one hand, what does family even mean? There are so many definitions and so many ways people have experienced "family" -- not all of them good. Consider people whose families have rejected them for who they are. (How painful must that be?) Or the people who grew up in families where younger, weaker siblings were bullied and teased. (It's OK, though. We're family.) So when we say, "We're family," it doesn't conjure the same thing for all people. That's what you want to be careful of.
On the other? Well, check out the attached blog post for more insights. What do you think about it? Do you want your work to be a family? Or perhaps you already have a family, thank you very much.
Thanks to Austin ☕️ Drabik for "setting the point," and Christine Boucher, Malka Bendor, Sam Underwood, and Martin O. Butler for sharing your thoughts and perspectives.

I think the key words Brad Blaisdell, MBA uses here are knowledge and ability.
Respect is often considered so common sense that we fail to recognize it is just as nuanced as anything else when it comes to people interacting in close proximity under stressful conditions.
Knowledge and ability. As a leader are you actively increasing both in your people - or simply expecting it to happen?
If it’s the latter - it simply means your own knowledge and ability is where you first begin your journey.
Well done Brad and team headversity.
💡 Here's a quick tip from Brad Blaisdell, MBA, our VP of Workplace Solutions and Compliance at headversity.
Captured at the 'Mental Health in the Workplace' event with the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce and Teamworks Career Centre, in this clip, Brad talks about the power of empowering the bystander to help shape a supportive and respectful work environment.

My journey has been one of evolution, transitioning from training animals to empowering people.
Along the way, I have accumulated invaluable lessons from working with both animals and humans, learning patience, empathy, and the importance of clear communication.
While grateful for the insights gained through training animals and people alike, what I love most is the opportunities to share these lessons with others.
I cherish the moments where I can impart wisdom and foster growth in others.
Here’s to more of these moments this year!! 😉

It’s surreal to be standing here today, reflecting on how far Embrace Life has come. What started as a vision in June 2020, built on countless late nights and a deep belief in making a difference, has now grown into something we can truly call our own.
Back then, it was just me, burning the midnight oil, creating YouTube videos on the POSH Act 2013, with the hope that the message would reach and empower as many people as possible. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth every sleepless night, every challenge faced, and every small victory along the way.
Fast forward to today, and I am beyond thrilled to announce that we now have our very own office. This space isn’t just a physical location; it’s a symbol of the hard work, dedication, and resilience that has fueled our journey. It stands for the countless moments of determination, the belief in the power of knowledge, and the unwavering support of everyone who believed in this dream.
I am deeply grateful to every person who has been part of this journey – my incredible team, our clients, partners, and all those who have supported Embrace Life along the way. Your belief in our mission has brought us to this moment, and I couldn’t be more proud.
Here’s to new beginnings, endless opportunities, and a future filled with growth, learning, and empowerment. Let’s continue to embrace life and all the possibilities it brings!
