This year, we were proud to support nine community organisations and projects across our neighbourhoods, from London to Maidenhead to Manchester, with a total of £80,000 in funding. Working with ActionFunder, a platform that brings responsible businesses together with non-profits to make change happen, our Inspiring Community funds help enact positive change in local communities by supporting upskilling, improving mental and physical health and providing greater access to cultural and environmental-led activities. Groups that received support this year include Friends of Maidenhead Waterway, a charity committed to improving access to the waterway for all; Mads do & Mend CIC, an organisation which empowers communities to mend clothes themselves through craft and creativity; Chobham Friends, the parent-teacher association for Chobham Academy primary at East Village and Foundation 92, which works with young people in Pendleton, Greater Manchester to provide upskilling and wellbeing opportunities. Public libraries are just one example of how cultural activity can improve health and wellbeing. Buckinghamshire Libraries do much more than loan books. They act as community hubs and offer a huge variety of free services, support and opportunities to local communities. They partner with charities such as Alina Orchestra, support the Summer Reading Challenge and engage artists in a range of projects as part of the Healthy Libraries programme. Volunteers from VINCI Building UK's project team delivering the transformational regeneration of St Helens town centre have worked together to support The Standing Tall Foundation, a local charity which is providing Christmas gifts and toys for the most vulnerable families in the borough. An event held in a marquee at the Living Well Building saw more than 60 volunteers from a wide range of companies help wrap, pack and deliver over 2000 presents. These were distributed amongst 50 local schools identified as having pupils with the greatest need as well as homeless families, ensuring the most vulnerable children have something to open on Christmas day. #socialvalue #communitesmatter #humility #teamspirit

I'm often floored by the breadth of activity grassroots charities, CICs and voluntary groups deliver in this county. The first phase of our State of the Sector report that we've recently published in partnership with Devon County Council highlights this - the incredible work taking place and the huge challenges faced. Some figures are shocking, but sadly not surprising, such as a third of total respondents holding no reserves, and nearly half struggling to recruit and retain Board members. So much to think about regarding how we can better serve the sector. Please read more below...
The first phase of our project to understand the strengths and challenges of voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations across Devon shows a landscape of small groups, many operating with little to no reserves, with a strong focus on delivering support directly to individuals and a holistic approach to community support. We are working in partnership with Devon County Council to look at published data and generate new insights to paint an authoritative picture of the VCSE sector in Devon, including Plymouth and Torbay. Last year we launched a survey aimed at registered charities and social enterprises in Devon. We have now published our first release sharing data from the survey and drawing out some initial findings about who these groups are, how they work and with whom. Read the full release and find out more about the project on our website. https://lnkd.in/epnAZfNm

They also helped decorate a room at Coatham House, a charity providing supported housing for young people. Sarah Thorpe, one of our Regional Managers, commented: "We’ve been proud supporters of The King’s Trust Team Programmes for many years, funding numerous Teesside teams through our Community Support Fund, which aims to enhance lives in steel communities. The Sizewell C Community Fund is proud to support Young People Taking Action (CYDS). CYDS has recently been awarded just over £19,000 for youth engagement and detached outreach work. With over 20 years of supporting young people in and around Leiston, CYDS is well-placed to support young people living in areas impacted by the Sizewell C construction. With the funding, CYDS will be able to collate data and insights to inform a strategy for future youth work in the area over the longer term. The Sizewell C Community Fund will provide up to £23m to local charities, community groups and organisations which are delivering projects that benefit local communities in East Suffolk.
