Below are three key areas to review to optimize the finance offering during this critical time: 1. Store and Customer Support Ask your finance partner what additional resources they have planned to manage the increased volume of applications. For example, are they extending opening hours for underwriting teams, customer service, and store support lines? During this key trading period, you don’t want higher application volumes negatively impacting acceptance rates, referral times, or customer experience. Ensuring proper support can help avoid these potential issues. 2. Finance Promotions Your finance promotions for Q4 should already be planned and agreed upon, but it’s not too late to tailor them further to meet your needs. For example, what is your deposit strategy? During this costly period for consumers, would offering a 0% deposit help boost sales? Or would a "Buy Now, Pay Later" option (e.g., Pay in 2025) provide the right promotional message? Engage with your finance partner and ask for their input—they should leverage their experience across multiple verticals and merchants to guide you in maximizing your promotional impact. 3. System Readiness and Integration Ensure your systems and those of your finance partner are fully integrated and prepared to handle increased transaction volumes. This includes communication between your point-of-sale systems, Ecommerce platforms and their finance application processing tools. Check whether any system updates or enhancements are planned during Q4, and ensure both teams are aligned on any technical requirements. Downtime or system glitches during peak trading times can be costly, so it's crucial to have robust processes in place to prevent disruptions. Testing your systems under heavier loads ahead of time can help identify and resolve potential issues before they affect sales. As merchants prepare for the busy Q4 trading period, it is essential to work closely with finance partners to ensure a smooth and successful season. Focus on ensuring store and customer support can handle increased application volumes, refining finance promotions to help drive sales, and ensuring system integration and readiness to avoid costly disruptions. Boston Consulting Group and Nat West Boxed recently conducted research involving retailers in the UK. The findings were that embedded finance, for instance, e-commerce sites could help them attain a revenue growth of up to 7%. Respondents also said they had received conversion rates of up to 12%. In addition, average orders spiked to 15-30%. NatWest Boxed's CEO, Andrew Ellis, urged retailers to join hands with the right Banking as a Service (BaaS) solutions to get the most out of embedded finance.
