From Benefits to Mission: Transforming Volunteer Engagement. Recruiting volunteers isn’t about pitching free coffee or fun—it’s about igniting a passion for something bigger than themselves. If your approach focuses on "What’s in it for me?" you may attract participants, but you won’t retain deeply committed team members. Why? Because volunteering is a gift, not a transaction. It’s a choice to sacrifice time, energy, and resources for a meaningful purpose. Instead of leading with benefits, lead with mission. Show prospective volunteers how their role transforms lives, advances your cause, and fits into a bigger vision. When people are aligned with a purpose, the benefits follow naturally: connection, community, fulfillment, and joy. Shift your enrollment strategy from transactional to transformational. Build a culture where mission drives engagement, and watch as your teams become more resilient and deeply invested for the long haul. #VolunteerLeadership #PurposeDriven #TeamBuilding #beyondself #MissionMatters #welcomeaboard Thank you Jared Thornton 📷

Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week! We just wrapped up another very productive Community Engagement & Belonging Committee meeting :) Here's what we accomplished this time: - New document repository (google drive folder, with a number of subfolders/docs) for committee members to stay organized - New survey for committee members to provide feedback on IAEE benefits/programs they experience - First "day in the life" post shared via the official International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) LinkedIn account (see my previous post for the link to a very cool video from Elizabeth George, CEM and stay tuned for more posts... coming soon - spoiler alert: next up is Justin Post!) - First "committee member spotlight" post should be viewable today, if it isn't already (I'll see if I can find the link to put in the comments here :) - cheers Kara Dao, CEM, DES - can't wait to read it!) Also, our committee collected some great insights about: - our communities (e.g. how we identify ourselves and which professionals may wish to connect via IAEE more) so we can better support/engage *everyone* moving forward, especially via one of our project teams, specifically, as well as - our (hectic!) travel schedules to help another project team find convenient opportunities for you to "meet up" with your peers That's not even to mention the progress of our project teams! Running out of characters, so I'll just say that they're all on track now... some, en route to "completion" (AKA internal approval stage) within the next month or so and others looking a little further ahead (but definitely will be worth the wait). Looking forward to popping into some of our project team meetings this/next week to clarify anything else that needs clarifying and, primarily, listen to more of their brilliant project plans :) PS. In case you're curious, we received 28/29 possible surveys (+1 bonus, from one of our staff reps) for this month's committee meeting... almost 100% participation again, despite the especially hectic time of year for our industry - kudos to all! #VolunteerAppreciation #BuildInPublic #SocialMedia #TradeShows #ProjectManagement #Volunteering

As it’s National Volunteers Week, I thought it would be a good time to share some top tips for volunteer-involving organisations that use the Outcomes Star. If you have paid staff completing Outcomes Stars with individuals, and then volunteers providing befriending or mentoring support, these are some approaches you could consider. ⭐ Share the Star visual and action plan with the volunteer (obviously, in accordance with your own information governance protocols). This will help your volunteers better understand the individual they are supporting and see where and how they might help. ⭐ Explain the Journey of Change to your volunteer, so that they can adapt their interventions to be most effective at each stage of change. ⭐ Use completed Review Stars to celebrate success with your volunteer. How often have we heard a befriending volunteer say all they really did is listen? With your Star data, you can show them that their listening helped the individual being supported make an internal shift in their engagement with change. That’s a big deal! ⭐ Use completed Stars and the Journey of Change to prepare for when support is due to end and alleviate any worries about dependence. ⭐ Celebrate all that has been achieved! Star visuals are a great way to see how much has changed while the volunteer has been supporting. I’ve worked with so many amazing volunteers over the years and I love the fact that the Star can help volunteers to see just how brilliant and needed they are! I'd love to know how you use the Outcomes Star with volunteers? Do you share Star data? Are your volunteers aware of the Journey of Change? Get in touch with our specialists if you want to find out more! https://lnkd.in/ecejzPaA Triangle Consulting Social Enterprise Ltd #volunteersweek #outcomesstar

Many people think of volunteering at this time of year, but does it impact employee productivity? Huntsman School of Business Assistant Professor Xiaomei (Grazia) Xiong and her research colleagues wanted to find out. They crafted a study to examine how different types of workplace support encourage employees to volunteer, how much they engage with volunteering, and how, when they returned to work, they interacted with their coworkers and helped out around the office. The heart of Volunteer Management: My Take on Best Practices. Having been involved in volunteer management for quite some time now, and through a mix of trial, error, and heartwarming success stories, I’ve crafted my list of best practices that truly make a difference. Volunteer management isn’t just about organizing people; it’s about recognizing their value, fostering a sense of community, and making sure everyone feels appreciated. Here are my top tips: 1. Clear Communication: Transparent, consistent communication is key. Always keep volunteers in the loop about what’s happening, their roles, and any changes. It builds trust and reliability. 2. Personal Connection:Get to know your volunteers personally. Understand their motivations, skills, and preferences. A simple “thank you” with a personal touch goes a long way. 3. Proper Training: Equip your volunteers with the right tools and knowledge. Effective and engaging training programs make them feel competent and confident. 4. Flexibility and Support: Life happens, and volunteers might not always be available. Be flexible and supportive, and they’ll be much more likely to stay committed in the long run. 5. Recognition: Celebrate their efforts, big and small. Whether it’s a shoutout on social media, a small token of appreciation, or a volunteer appreciation event, recognition fuels their passion. 6. Meaningful Engagement: Make sure that the work they’re doing feels impactful. Volunteers want to know they’re making a difference, so connect their tasks to the larger mission. 7. Create a Community: Encourage bonding and sharing among volunteers. A thriving community will lead to a dedicated, passionate, and loyal volunteer base. 8. Feedback Loop: Always solicit feedback and be open to suggestions. Volunteers who feel heard are more likely to stay involved. Managing volunteers is not just about organizing people; it's about connecting hearts and building a common dream. Each volunteer brings unique energy to the table, and it's our job to make sure that light shines brightly. Here’s to building better, stronger, more compassionate communities together! I am Egeonu Amarachi, the social impact advocate ❤️. I hope you got value from this. #SocialImpact #SDGs #VolunteerManagement #CommunityBuilding #MakeADifference
