New video to share details of the current festival preparations happening in Bali! So - I took the picture for this video in the morning... this led to a day of contemplation and the resulting video at night!! Hope you learn something that helps you be just a little better! Then celebrate that!! If we understand the significance of festivals throughout the world we can see that most are to commemorate birth and death, So Easter and Christmas are times that are celebrated in more Christian-focused countries, Eid is celebrated in Muslim countries (Bali is largely Hindu in population while Indonesia is largely Muslim), and Rosh Hashanah and Hanukah are important Jewish occasions. Each reminds people of the life and death cycle, each reminds us of the importance of "dharma"(right) over "adharma"(not right) - or the victory of good over evil. Do you realize that this battle is happening each day in our own bodies/minds? And that these festival/celebration dates are largely to help keep our minds re-centred (or reminded) about right action and justice for all? When we become prideful about our personal Religious (or any other) choice, which makes us hurtful with our thoughts, words and actions towards anyone, this "iron age" of our current worldly experience grows. When we remember our ancestors (and current living friends and family too) with appreciation and act from love and compassion for each other (every day, not just holidays or festival times) - I believe that all Gods and ancestors of every tradition are pleased. It all begins with our personal actions (karma created through our thoughts, words and actions). Do take time to reflect on the ideas raised in this video. Most important - watch your mind and the authenticity behind your kindness. As mentioned in the video, here is the link for the upcoming festival in Bali for your interest/information (I have no affiliation with the author but thought it was a good summary): https://lnkd.in/gqExtrkJ https://lnkd.in/gRHCipv2

#Op_ed: #Ashenda: The importance of honoring cultural heritage in its authentic form In his op-ed, Abdisa A. Kalbesa, a medical science student at Edith Cowan University in Australia, discusses the importance of preserving cultural traditions in their authentic form, focusing on the Ashenda festival celebrated by the #Tegaru people. The piece emphasizes the significance of respecting cultural heritage without appropriation or exploitation. Abdisa argues that traditions like Ashenda should be appreciated for their intrinsic value to the communities that practice them, rather than being altered or commercialized. The article concludes by calling for the celebration of cultural diversity while preserving traditions in their original state. Abdisa suggests that this approach allows for a deeper understanding and respect for the cultural identities represented by these practices. https://lnkd.in/emNwk4Mv

Loy Krathong [ลอยกระทง] is one of the biggest festivities in Thailand. It is when people take to the waters to release small, illuminated boat offerings made of banana stalks and leaves. Over the years the sight of lights floating across the country’s rivers and canals has become a point of intrigue for visitors from all over. Loy Krathong is a festival celebrated by the Thai people on the full moon night of the twelfth month of the Thai lunar calendar. In the modern calendrical system, this event usually occurs in the month of November, though the date varies from year to year. Regardless of the exact timing, Loy Krathong is always considered as an occasion for joy, gratitude, and new beginnings. The term “Loy Krathong” is derived from word “loy” – meaning “to float”- and the word “krathong” – which refers to type of small, floating religious offering. True to its name, the highlight of the festival is the floating of krathongs across small and large bodies of water all over the country. The objective for this act varies depending on customs and beliefs, but can be generally identified as follow:

The 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐭 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 celebrated this year on 10 June. It commemorates the life and death of the famous poet and minister 𝐐𝐮 𝐘𝐮𝐚𝐧, who lived during the Warring States period. The festival is marked by various cultural customs and activities. Three Traditions Associated with the Dragon Boat Festival: 1. 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠: Teams paddle elaborately decorated dragon boats in races, symbolizing the search for Qu Yuan's body after he drowned himself in the Miluo River. 2. 𝐄𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐙𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐳𝐢: People prepare and eat zongzi, which are sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves. This tradition originated from the villagers who threw rice into the river to prevent fish from eating Qu Yuan’s body. 3. 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐮𝐠𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭: These plants are hung on doors and windows to ward off evil spirits and disease, reflecting ancient beliefs in their protective qualities during the early summer season when the festival takes place.

Yakshagana, a theatrical art form popular in Karnataka and some parts of Kerala, also comes alive in diverse ways in the lives of people in the south-western region of Karnataka called Tulunadu. Tala maddale is an example of this. Unlike Yakshagana, which includes music, dance, and dialogue, Tala-Maddale focuses on song and dialogue. Its plots, often drawn from mythology, feature impromptu debates between characters. This art form is a source of entertainment and intellectual engagement. The following is a glimpse of this art form from CISD.... https://lnkd.in/dFSHH-Zp

Did You Know....Today is Lantern Festival. The Lantern Festival (traditional Chinese: 元宵節; simplified Chinese: 元宵节; pinyin: Yuánxiāo jié), also called Shangyuan Festival (traditional Chinese: 上元節; simplified Chinese: 上元节; pinyin: Shàngyuán jié), is a Chinese traditional festival celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunisolar Chinese calendar, during the full moon. Usually falling in February or early March on the Gregorian calendar, it marks the final day of the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations. As early as the Western Han dynasty (206 BC–AD 25), it had become a festival with great significance. During the Lantern Festival, children go out at night carrying paper lanterns and solve riddles on the lanterns (traditional Chinese: 猜燈謎; simplified Chinese: 猜灯谜; pinyin: cāidēngmí). In ancient times, the lanterns were fairly simple, and only the emperor and noblemen had large ornate ones. In modern times, lanterns have been embellished with many complex designs. For example, lanterns are now often made in the shape of animals. The lanterns can symbolize the people letting go of their past selves and getting new ones, which they will let go of the next year. The lanterns are almost always red to symbolize good fortune. The festival acts as an Uposatha day on the Chinese calendar. It should not be confused with the Mid-Autumn Festival; which is sometimes also known as the "Lantern Festival" in locations such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. Lantern Festivals have also become popular in Western countries, such as the Water Lantern Festival held in multiple locations in the United States. #LanternFestival #culture #dei #DEIU #PartnersPersonnelInAction #ifn #partnerspersonnel #knowledge

One of the most important country in this initiative is Pakistan which borders China’s Xinjiang Province in the north, albeit at an elevation of over 15,000 feet. It therefore provides China with a potential corridor through the Karakoram Highway to the seaport at Gwadar in Baluchistan on the Indian Ocean.
