As announced in November of 2023, GHG Protocol is refining its governance model to meet the needs of a rapidly changing GHG accounting and reporting landscape. As voluntary and regulatory programs continue to integrate GHG Protocol’s standards and guidance, we’ve recognized the need to update our governance model to maintain transparency and accountability to our stakeholders. To that end, we are evolving our governance structure in tandem with our work to update GHG Protocol’s flagship suite of corporate standards. Amid a significant decision announced by SBTi on Tuesday, stakeholders may be interested to read GHG Protocol's newly released summary of stakeholder feedback on the use of market-based accounting approaches in scope 3 (and scope 1). It provides a brief history on the concept of market-based accounting, its existing application within scope 2, a compilation of feedback about a variety of market instruments in existence today (including carbon offsets) and a summary of the range of opinions on the appropriateness of using market instruments in scopes 1 and 3. This report is the output of a survey conducted by GHG Protocol last year representing opinions from 343 organizations across industry, academia, NGOs, governments, leadership and target-setting initiatives, and civil society. https://lnkd.in/e2mmWQeG

The latest update on the GHG Protocol's governance process!

Brazil incorporating ISSB-aligned disclosures for listed companies is a big step in their transition strategy. The transition period from 2024 is intended to give companies time to prepare for both the reporting and assurance requirements.
