Great news for organisations regarding mandatory climate-related disclosures: the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) have announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This agreement highlights their commitment to closely collaborate and ensure compatibility between their standards. This development marks a significant advancement in standardising global #GHGreporting. People might think that this is not that important, but for future practicality, Including Carbon Accounting (With GHG Protocol standard) with sustainability reports will create huge demands for carbon accounting experts to help all stock-listed and multinational companies operating in Indonesia, improve their reports. The wave might be enforced as soon as 2025/2026. Please be aware and prepare before it's already too late, it's a marathon effort, not an overnight sprint.

This is an important step of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) and the IFRS Foundation to harmonise the globale climate disclosure landscape.

Great to see two leading organizations Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) and International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) working together on standard setting for GHG Accounting. This will be benefitial for corporate GHG management, accounting and reporting. And good to see how Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol)'s governance structures are evolving with Alexander Bassen as Chair of the Independent Standards Board and Geraldine Matchett, Ovais Sarmad chairing the newly established Steering Committee. Further alignment between ISSB and GHG - ambiguities and lack of convergence will only impede development of climate reporting. Standardisation is necessary to proliferate development in shaping the future of climate disclosures.

Last month the UK Government launched its Scope 3 GHG Consultation to understand the "costs, benefits and practicalities of Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions reporting." With a closing date of the 14th of December the consultation will be followed by endorsement recommendations from the independent UK Technical Advisory committee (TAC). Questions are spread across stakeholders in the UK carbon reporting and disclosure ecosystem. A section is focused on the 5.6 million SMEs, who often sit in supply chains with little support or regulation. I am eager to see what the government will propose to "reduce the costs or increase the benefits of reporting" for these businesses who are a key part of systemic decarbonisation. The results will inform a pending government’s decision on endorsing the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) IFRS S1 and S2 standards in the UK. Outcomes will also form a "post-implementation" review of the Streamlined Energy Carbon Reporting (SECR), with an aim to "reduce compliance costs and increase the benefits of the regulation." https://lnkd.in/eGK3d6gk
