The Evolution of Leadership in the Automotive Industry I once visited a major carmaker and met their new Head of Supply Chain, who had just been the CFO. Curious, I asked if the move was just to cut costs. He explained that the CEO believed the CFO’s role touched all parts of the company, much like a Chief Supply Chain Officer (CSCO). The CSCO gathers and shares information across departments, ensuring everyone works together smoothly. At that company, the CSCO reported directly to the CEO. Although the role didn’t continue as planned, I still love the idea. A dedicated CSCO can be crucial for a carmaker’s success. What do you think?

In 2017 A.P. Moller - Maersk say they lost $1.1B. In 2018, they made $3.2B. In 2019, they lost $44M. In 2020, they made $2.9B. In 2021, they made $18B. In 2022, their profits hit the historical high at $29B. In 2023, they made $3.9B. Adding all the last 7 years, it was a cool $55.86B but how many companies the size of MAERSK could have such a rollercoaster P&L? Now Maersk, are saying they are worried about future profitability. 😐

**Turning Challenges into Success** One year ago, we completed the successful installation, commissioning and startup of the BOBST FFG machine, a key milestone in our operations. Leading this project, I was responsible for overseeing the entire process from planning to execution. It was not without challenges. Technical issues, tight deadlines and coordinating multiple teams but by staying hands-on and focused, we were able to solve problems efficiently & get the machine up smoothly. This achievement is a testament to what strong teamwork and proactive leadership can accomplish. The Machine is well contributing to our production goals and setting a solid foundation for future growth. Looking back, I am proud of what we have accomplished together and it reminds me of the importance of staying focused & resilient when it counts.
