Frying Pan to Fire for Basildon Borough Council ? : “A GLOBAL cinema chain will “breathe new life” into Basildon despite concerns over its finances as the industry struggles to recover from the Covid pandemic, a councillor has vowed. A report by #cinema experts Entertainment Solution Services Ltd (ESS) in September, there were fears Vue could “increase its risk of running out of cash” as the number of customers could be lower than expected amid industry struggles” noted by Moody's and S&P Global most recent credit reports that include restructuring details. Both the industry and the company predictions were realised and publicly reported in early 2024 by the trade and ESS. The U.K. cinema market place continues to trade at levels 25% below 2019 admissions and this unpredictability ensures that there is an on-going Marathon Not a Sprint to Recovery. NYS BUDGET--DID TENANTS LOSE OUT AND BY HOW MUCH? What many probably don't realize is how terrible it is for the state's tenants. There's the return of a craven & useless tax abatement program which solely benefits developers, only now, it's been made even worse; give-backs from the 2019 Tenant Protection Act--which only just began to level the playing the field after decades of landlords having all the power; bigger Floor-to-Area Ratios (FARS) for buildings--very high on developers' wish lists; even permitting casinos to be built on sites without any land use review--meaning no public input....... It just keeps getting worse. The guest is one of the few people who tells it like it is, John Fisher, creator of Tenant.Net. https://lnkd.in/dc9nxMXV

On WBAI Radio's Living for the City, a rebroadcast of a segment concerning NYCHA, public housing & privatization--and the proposed $1.5 BILLION demolition of complexes in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood instead of making repairs. These are much needed Section 8 units; the proposal would permit private developers to build mixed-use towers instead, taking SIX years, but what guarantee is there for housing the tenants and/or the poor who will be displaced? The area is already highly gentrified and also happens to abut Hudson Yards--is this a land grab from an obliging mayor? And, why are the local electeds either quiet or supportive of this plan? Where are the crusaders like AOC? https://lnkd.in/eAAduYzH
