🎉 Hey, some new is happening! Did you know that Etherscan just launched the API V2: Multichain? As a blockchain developer, especially working with smart contracts, I’m always on the lookout for tools that make our lives easier. And this is definitely one of them! Why V2? In the multichain world, one of the biggest headaches has been managing multiple API keys for each network. The V2 API solves this by allowing us to access over 50 chain IDs with a single API key. Yes, just one! This means a much smoother experience and fewer hassles. What’s New? - Single API Key: Simplifies life by accessing multiple chains with one key. - Cross-chain Simplicity: It’s now much easier to query multichain data; just add the chain ID to your request. - Compatibility: While V2 is fully backward-compatible, it’s recommended to switch over as V1 will gradually be phased out. And here’s a quick example of how you can use the API to get balances on Layer 2 in a super practical way 👆 (and check out the attached image too!). You can dive into the documentation to get all the details and make the most of API V2. Why is this so important? As we work with smart contracts and blockchain development, a consolidated API means less friction and more time to focus on true innovation. 🔔 Note: Starting January 2025, Pro subscriptions will be consolidated into your Etherscan account. 🤔 Confused about on What Blockchain Layer 1 and Layer 2? 🚧Here is a simple analogy using the Lagos Mainland to Island route to help you understand 🛣️ 📍The major road that leads to the Island from the Mainland is the popular Third Mainland Bridge. You can picture this route as follows: ✅Mainland – Transaction: Imagine you have a document (a transaction) that needs to be processed and verified. This represents the initial stage where a transaction originates on the blockchain networks •✅ Third Mainland Bridge – Processing of Transaction: Think of the Third Mainland Bridge as the main blockchain itself (Layer 1 like Bitcoin or Ethereum). It's the secure and established route but with heavy traffic (lots of transactions being processed). Every transaction must go through this bridge for final validation and record-keeping on the main blockchain. This process can be slow due to the high volume. •✅ Island - Verified Transaction: Once you reach the Island, your document (transaction) is now verified and secure. This signifies a successful transaction being finalized on the blockchain. 🎯Here's where Layer 2 comes in: 📍Lagos also has ferries that can take you from the Mainland to the Island, offering a faster alternative. These ferries represent Layer 2 solutions built on top of the blockchain. •✅ Faster Boat (Layer 2): These are boats operating alongside the Third Mainland Bridge. This represents a Layer 2 solution, offering a faster way to process transactions. It operates outside the main blockchain, reducing congestion and speeding things up. • ✅Limited Capacity & Relies on Mainland: However, the boat can only carry a specific number of passengers (limited processing power) and might not be suitable for everything (not all transactions may be suitable for Layer 2). 📍Additionally, for ultimate security, the boat ride still needs to be verified by the authorities on the Island (Layer 2 relies on Layer 1 for final security checks). 🎯So, just like choosing between the busy Third Mainland Bridge and the faster ferry for your trip, Layer 1 and Layer 2 offer different options. Layer 1 is secure but slower, while Layer 2 is faster but with limitations. The choice depends on your needs – prioritizing security or speed for your transactions.
