How Does the Citizen Charity Foundation Operate? In these challenging times for our country, as war brings numerous losses, we unite our efforts to assist our heroic military. Our Foundation aids severely wounded defenders, and thanks to the support of compassionate individuals and organizations, we can provide essential assistance. Here's a look at how we operate: 1️⃣ DONATIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS The largest part of our budget comes from donations from individuals. These are the caring Ukrainians who support our heroes with their contributions. Every hryvnia counts, and it is through these donations that we can continue our vital mission. 2️⃣ SUPPORT FROM PARTNER FUNDS We actively collaborate with domestic and international partner funds that provide us with substantial financial support. These organizations share our values and strive to help those affected by the war. They enable us to pay for modern prosthetics and fund long-term rehabilitation. 3️⃣ SUPPORT FROM UKRAINIAN BUSINESSES Domestic businesses also play a crucial role in our activities. Ukrainian companies provide us with financial assistance, organize charity events, and support us in various other ways. Through collective efforts, we can do more for our defenders. 4️⃣ GRANTS In addition to donations and partner support, we also actively attract grant funds. These are special financial programs that allow us to implement large projects and expand our activities. Grants help us provide our military with the best prosthetics and comprehensive rehabilitation support. Each of these components is an integral part of our Foundation. As the CEO of Veterans with Dogs, I feel compelled to address the recent concerning trends in military charity support and readiness. The landscape for organisations like ours is changing rapidly, and it's crucial to understand the challenges we face. Declining Support for Military Charities Recent research has revealed a worrying decline in public support for military charities: The number of Britons donating to military charities dropped from 3.2 million in 2017 to 2.1 million in 2022. This represents a loss of over 1 million donors in just five years. Shrinking Charity Landscape The armed forces charity sector itself is also contracting: 10% of Britain's 1,917 military charities that existed in 2017 have been forced to close their doors. This reduction in the number of charities puts additional pressure on those remaining to meet the needs of veterans and their families. Current Challenges The Directory of Social Change (DSC) report highlights several pressing issues: Only 38% of military charities have plans in place for a major conflict. Many charities are reliant on volatile public donations, which can fluctuate significantly. Our Commitment to Veterans We remain steadfast in our mission to provide assistance dogs to veterans struggling with mental health issues. Despite the challenging environment, we regularly review and update our contingency plans, we continue to strengthen our partnerships with other charities and support networks whilst continuously improving our programmes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. Looking Ahead These challenges serve as a call to action for all military charities. As we move forward, Veterans With Dogs remains committed to enhancing our capacity to support veterans, collaborating with other organisations to create a more robust support network, and advocating for increased government support and recognition of the vital role military charities play. In these uncertain times, we must remain vigilant and prepared. Veterans With Dogs stands ready to adapt and evolve, ensuring that we can continue to provide crucial support to our veterans, no matter the circumstances. To all my friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances, today is my 10 week countdown to take on the Cataran Yomp. The Cateran Yomp is the biggest, toughest event of its kind. Every year, hundreds of Yompers gather in the Scottish wilderness to battle through the foothills of the Cairngorm Mountains, walking continuously for 54, 36 or 22 miles over 24 hours. Based on an infamous long-distance military training march, it takes every ounce of grit you possess. And every single step helps our mission: to be there for soldiers, for veterans, for their families. For life. The Yomp takes courage. Discipline. Integrity. Teamwork. It will not be easy so I have signed up to do the 54 miles, and the hard training starts now. As tough as it will be, the main aim is raising money for the Army Benevolent Fund, as it provides essential support to soldiers, veterans, and their families in times of need. This fund helps with various needs such as financial assistance, mental health support, housing, and rehabilitation services. By contributing to this cause, individuals can show their gratitude and support for those who have served and sacrificed for their country. This financial support can make a significant difference in the lives of military personnel and their loved ones, ensuring they receive the care and assistance they deserve. The American Battle Monuments Foundation has been assigned #77736 for eligible federal employees to donate through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC.)   The Combined Federal Campaign is designed specifically for federal employees and retirees, active-duty military and veterans, federal contractors, and U.S. postal employees. It offers them an opportunity to support non-profit organizations that have met the rigorous standards required of participating charities. Approved charities must be a tax-exempt non-profit in existence for at least five years with financial records filed with the IRS, must be active in at least 20 American states and, for some, (as is the case of ABMF,) have an international presence. Specific information about the organization’s accounting, governance and program functions are disclosed.   Hosted by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the CFC is the world’s largest and most successful workplace giving campaign. Since its inception by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, the CFC program has raised more than $8.7 billion in pledges to local, national, and international charities.
