Family Financial Planner | Holistic Need-Based Approach to Insurance, Investment, Retirement & Estate Planning
In the age of electricity, we all face the risk of wiring issues that can lead to serious home fires. From my observation, few of us conduct regular checks on the aging of our wiring, making it challenging to prevent fires caused by faulty wiring—especially when we're away or asleep. Repairing the damage from such fires can be financially draining. Therefore, whether you reside in a house or a condo, investing in house insurance is essential. You'll appreciate having coverage to offset the majority of expenses in the event of an incident. https://lnkd.in/gBp4muHs

Learn how to find and read permit applications. I have found: 1. Public adjusters claiming costs 3x what the contractors have reported. 2. Condo associations claiming they will incur the cost for window replacement to the insurance carrier while simultaneously sending letters to residents telling them they have to submit window claims to their individual carriers for reimbursement. In short, double dipping. 3. Repairs completed prior to the date of loss, but submitted as storm damage. 4. Repairs specifically tagged as storm damage prior to involvement of a Public Adjuster or Attorney. While not a confirmation, this helps a lot in establishing a good faith basis of known damages.

Billions in damage claims pile up in response to Baltimore bridge disaster. Claims filed by public sector, families of the deceased, and businesses — including shipping. THE DEADLINE to file claims arising from March’s allision of the containership Dali (IMO 9697428) with Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge has arrived. The scale of total claims is predictably enormous. There’s no way to put an exact figure on it yet. Many of the claimants did not specify how much they’ll ask for because damages continue to accrue. But given the dollar amounts that have already been disclosed, and the broad scope of damages being sought overall, the final number will be in the billions. Who pays — and how much — will hinge on the Limitation of Liability Act petition of Dali manager Synergy Marine and owner Grace Ocean, which are seeking to cap payouts at a mere $43.7m, the value of the vessel. Here’s a tally of the claims that will be fought over in the legal battle to come.

Some concerning news for property owners! According to a January 3, 2024 Business Insurance Journal report by Matthew Lerner, property re-insurance renewals have only increased by single digits following years of double-digit percent increases. However, the report I am attaching below demonstrates that 2023 was in fact the worst year for the number of days with 2 inches or more hail in recent history. It certainly reduces my hope of rate stabilization, so maybe we should not expect any near-future improvement in property rates. I encourage all property owners to read this article and stay informed, and budget accordingly. Link to the article: https://lnkd.in/eRmZwakb
