Not only in America

Sir, You have hit the nail on the head. We are losing our country of good, God-fearing, kind people to the likes of those that performed these heinous acts on October 7th. We have become an indifferent society plunging into the darkness of Evil people and evil principles. Why have we gone this direction, you might ask? I believe it is caused by an intense and growing apathy where we no longer care for each other. We seem to not care for those being murdered, raped, abused, and brutalized in tragic ways. When did it become okay for someone to be beaten or murdered in public view and people turn the other cheek as witnesses. They 'Choose' not to be a witness for fear of retribution and vengeful people taking actions of revenge for being turned in. I shutter to think where this current society will end up. Our national pride for the United States is shattered, our morals have seen a tragic trendline of decay, our children are no longer safe in their schools, the current administration has chosen to turn a blind eye to the invasion at the southern border and allow young, weapon carrying, immigrants to cross the border at will without the DHS and Border patrol doing anything to stop the flow. And then we can not understand, seemingly, why people are being murdered by direct violence on both sides of the border and drugs are being brought into the USA by the tens of thousands of pounds intended to infect and intentionally kill our children. I am so sad that the current administration just lets it happen because it is the easiest thing to do. NOTHING! I can only hope and pray that we rise up and help to stop this insanity. And insane it truly is. In this next election cycle, please put on your critical thinking hat and try to help elect someone that has the balls to address and fix these many, many problems that are indeed fixable. But the politicians have to have the desire and the guts to make it happen. The way this country is developing, do you want your family and grandkids around these violent things. Well, it is going to take every single one of us to stand up and be counted to fix it. I am a Veteran of this country and served my time in the military service proudly. I shutter to roll the tape ahead and project what we are heading toward. Please get involved and elect people that want to fix it. You can elect whoever you want but I would highly recommend that if you want these problems to be fixed then elect someone that has the DEEPEST desire to fix the problems. If you don't then you will as well move to a different country because you are soon losing this one. HOW CAN WE POSSIBLY BE APATHETIC?

On this MLK Day, as we commemorate the enduring legacy of Dr. King’s dream, I’m reminded of the “three evils” he spoke of that persist as a plague to peace and justice: racism, extreme capitalism, and militarism. His timeless address reminds us that these issues are not isolated but deeply intertwined, affecting communities around the world. In light of the ongoing war against Gaza, Dr. King's words from another address ring especially true for me — “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” King also admonished us, “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.” Today and everyday, we must be committed to a brand of social justice that is as global as the principles of justice are universal. Our founding enslavers here in the US got a lot wrong in the execution — seriously, nearly 75% of the authors for the Declaration of Independence were enslavers. Regardless, the opening of the Declaration of Independence is a social justice manifesto if I’ve ever seen one: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. On this MLK Day, I pray life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for Gaza’s citizens and all of the oppressed peoples around the globe experiencing genocide. #standup #speakout #resist Transcript in comments.

Did you know that the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. used to ask volunteers working with him to sign a commitment card that they would adhere to his 10 commandments of nonviolence. While they are specific to his mission, they can also apply to anyone. #mlk #dyk (from today’s The Christophers) The commandments stated: “ 1. Meditate daily on the teachings and life of Jesus; 2. Remember always that the nonviolent movement in Birmingham seeks justice and reconciliation—not victory; 3. Walk and talk in the manner of love, for God is love. “4. Pray daily to be used by God in order that all men might be free; 5. Sacrifice personal wishes in order that all men might be free; 6. Observe with both friend and foe the ordinary rules of courtesy; 7. Seek to perform regular service for others and for the world. “8. Refrain from the violence of fist, tongue, or heart; 9. Strive to be in good spiritual and bodily health; 10. Follow the directions of the movement and of the captain on a demonstration.”

We pay tribute to Doctor and Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., who is a powerful source of inspiration for McKelvey Resolution. Here is one of our favorite quotes:   “Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal.” Martin Luther King, Jr. In the legal arena, many view settlement as a goal to obtain peace from a legal dispute. But we cannot forget that just as important as the destination of peace is, so too is the road we take to get there. Pursuing and honoring peace at every juncture of a dispute helps us attain the goal of peace. Peace in how we litigate, peace in how we treat our perceived enemies on the other side, and peace in how we mediate is the means by which we reach the destinations of resolution.  As Mahatma Gandhi said, “There is no path to peace, peace is the path.” Whether in litigation or mediation, lawyers should be paving a pathway of peace for the good of our clients, our profession, and our community.  #mckelveyresolution #peacemaking #mediation #MLKday
