Chandrakasan Award for Distinguished-Technical Paper! Their work presents the latest developments in Pipelined-SAR Capacitance-to-Digital Converters with kT/C noise cancellation demonstrating a 37.1 aF resolution and a 5 µs conversion speed. The introduction of an incomplete-settling-based correlated-level-shifting (ISCLS) technique enables power-efficient closed-loop amplification, while a background timing control loop improves gain precision across PVT variations. Use Case: - Our SmartRock Long-Range wireless sensors are being used to monitor mass concrete temperature as well as strength. Impact: - Using the mobile app, the Jersen team is able to receive REAL-TIME concrete temperature & strength readings, and receives notifications when desired concrete temperature and strength thresholds are detected. This allows a sustainable approach on savings in concrete heating/ cooling costs, project acceleration, and risk mitigation! We look forward to supporting the team on this ongoing project!

🤝 CSA Catapult have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SMD Semiconductor. The MoU lays the foundation for both companies to work together in the design, prototyping and manufacturing of next-generation semiconductor and compound semiconductor chips in the automotive and space industries. 💬 Martin McHugh, CEO at CSA Catapult, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to sign this MoU with SMD Semiconductor today and to kick-start a partnership that will allow us to explore new opportunities to develop next-generation technology for critical industries such as automotive and space.  “The partnership will allow us to call on each other’s strengths in the design, prototyping and manufacturing of semiconductor and compound semiconductor technologies to enable new concepts, ideas and products. “The MoU also represents a significant landmark for both the UK and Sarawak. 🎶 On the eighth day of Technology, STFC gave to me.... a micro-thermal divider for using high-purity germanium in hybrid pixel detectors! 🎶 Okay, Day 8 of our 12 Days of Technology might not sound as catchy as ‘maids a-milking’ but it is far more interesting. High-purity germanium is a type of semiconducting material that, due to its uniform structure, has very attractive properties for X-ray detection. Usually, applying this technology to hybrid pixel detectors requires the design of a cryogenic readout chip – which is expensive and difficult to do, especially in comparison to conventional readout chips. Faced with this problem, our Detector Systems team decided to think outside the box and propose something called a ‘micro-thermal divider’. This ground-breaking technology would overcome the need for a cryogenic readout chip and instead insulate the sensor and provide direct cooling. An early prototype of this technology has already been created, using a series of mock-up components and preliminary assembly processes and is delivering encouraging results.
